6/9 😆 check in! What are you up to?
I have two years of automotive/aerospace manufacturing experience and am looking for new opportunities. I recently applied to a Solution Engineer - Commercial Manufacturing, Automotive, Energy (MAE) role at Salesforce, and it sounds like a great fit. Is anyone willing to offer me a referral or advice on how to move forward in the hiring process? Salesforce

Especially with rising cost of living in London. It’s a battle to seriously save at the moment even on a ‘decent’ London income.
Literally what I think about on the daily!
US people have no concept of how much they make. Granted they have more student loans etc but having lived there, they spend money like crazy on things like doordash, uber,..
Couldn’t agree more
The income level in the US (irrespective of expenses - which are not as high) is just crazy
I understand the costs of living are higher in the US, but with USD - EUR parity - some of these M’s making north of 200k is mind blowing 🤣🤣 don’t even get me started on these SM’s taking 400k TC 💀💀😐
I don’t think a London cost of living is that far below - we must just all be peasants 🤣🫡

I'm from NYC, cost of living is very exaggerated in the US. Yes, you can have a $200MM apartment on Park Ave, but you can also live in Brooklyn, Queens, Jersey, Rockland County, the Hudson Valley, Long Island etc where housing is much more affordable. Plus you get to keep your high Manhattan salary ($300k-$500k is not uncommon for director level and up workers or people working in tech or high finance by their early 30s).
Yes, London is a scam 🥲
Been wondering about it recently
As a US worker actively looking to come to London it is alarming
Liver in both cities. Groceries in London compared to New York are so much cheaper it’s a joke.
I mean as a Brit living in the Bay Area I’m on a much higher salary than I would be in London but still can’t buy so unless you’re in a middle or low cost city in the US (and those are not comparable cities to London) it’s the same problem. At least London has more choice / variability in house pricing depending on where you live. In SF or NYC there is no option but to make a ton of money

D2 - Chicago is low cost of living. Philly too. You can even live right outside of NYC and live in a very inexpensive town in NJ or CT.
Plenty of lead poisoning from water pipes in London as well, don't worry. The gigantic NHS backlog for pretty much anything apart from dying doesn't exactly fill one with confidence either. Significantly more people go private and pay up in the UK every year as well.
Meh, still better than the gun toting crazies in the US
I mean have you seen the cost of being old in the US... Better start saving (for college, for schools, for medical bills etc etc).
How do you mean? Ivy League is furiously expensive, especially given compulsory four year degrees.

Hah, you think the consulting salaries are absurdly high in the US, wait until you jump to FAANG. I knew 31 year olds with just communications degrees from no name state schools clearing $800k as warehouse directors. $450k is the norm at big tech. Lots of 20 somethings making that, many without any coding skills at all. So many opportunities, it's quite ridiculous, but the bubble is now bursting a bit with inflation.
Ugh yes 😥😥
Actually £500k can get you 45-50sq m in certain parts of zone 1. There's some hidden gems out there who might need some work but it's amazing to be able to walk to places!
Nope, US folk need the higher salaries to pay for the medical treatment after being poisoned by the tap water/shot/whatever. Not envious at all.

Never heard of that. Have lived here in NYC all of my life and my parents and friends' parents have all lived into their 70s with no health issues or high medical bills.
1B1B in Manhattan is $5000/month while there are plenty in central London for $3000/month.
Lol. Most 22-30 year old consultants I’ve met and spoken to in London make (40k as grads) to maybe 90k as experienced.
That’s £2,478 a month after tax and student loan for grads… not even including pension deduction.
And for the 90k bunch, assuming no deductions £5,024.
Many Grads / new hires over here just live at home if they can / or flat share with 2/3 people (not very central).
So $3000 a month would be more than a grad makes - and still a MASSIVE percentage of a 90k very experienced earner.
