My agency is opening up applications for a committee leader for DE&I efforts for the first time ever. This person will be responsible for overhauling how the agency approaches diversity, including employee training, internships, new business model and client communications. However, the role is a voluntary one-year term with no extra pay or incentive. There is no budget for this person to be trained themselves. How are your companies handling new diversity leadership? Should I voice my concern?

Does anyone see a shift in the industry wherein less emphasis is placed on billiable hours? I used to work at a firm where the average stint for an associate is 1 year or less. They lost clients as the clients got sick of seeing a new associate on their files every 6 months. The founding partner was near retirement so his goal was to maximize revenue rather than long term career development. I don’t see this as sustainable especially given millennial culture emphasis on work-life balance.

I’m a Sr. Mktg Mgr in NYC tech with 10 years experience. I used to be a generalist but recently stepped into a user-engagement role, owning all user comms. I’ve been operating as a one-person team and made a large impact this year (e.g. I drove user engagement - one of our key metrics - up over 80%). I just hired a direct report about a month ago.
