Over 40 in Consulting

Anyone here get LASIK after 40? I'm considering it but my eye doctor said that I'm trading distance glasses for reading glasses. Wish I had done it sooner in life but had severe anxiety about it. Found a doctor who can conduct the procedure under anesthesia and now considering the procedure

Whether you have LASIK or not, eventually you will need reading glasses. What you need to consider is whether improving your distance vision is worth it. I had LASIK 20 years ago. Great decision then. I need readers now, but can still see distance well enough to play golf, drive, etc. without glasses.

I have a very minor distance prescription. I wear bifocals mostly because I hated putting on and taking off readers when in meetings.

General rule is that if you're nearsighted, you will need readers somewhere around 40. Lasik will save you the cost of bifocals...

I’m asked my doctor about this and he said— you will need reading glasses because that is just what happens as you get older. Don’t let that dissuade you. People over 40 get LASIK all of the time and are very happy with the results. I was about to schedule before COVID hit and am hoping to be able to do it before the end of the year.

I’m 55 and had LASIK when I was 30. My glasses were like Coke bottles and I also had minor astigmatism. The ophthalmologist was only able to correct me to 20/22 but that’s good enough. It’s been great for 25 years, no additional corrections, no reading glasses!

I’m 59 and very nearsighted. I still don’t need readers. Without my glasses I can still read the tiniest print. I’ve always been nervous about LASIK. I’ve heard it causes dry eyes. I figure I can see well with my glasses so no reason to take a high risk on something as vital as sight.

I knew someone who had 1 eye corrected for far vision and the other to near vision. I think it would drive me crazy but apparently you can get used to it and maybe not need glasses. You can try it with contacts first.

Also don't go mono route if you are a pilot - not allowed as per current standards, you'll lose your medical.

Best decision I ever made was to have my vision corrected. I can’t think of any significant downside.

My husband had LASIK at 37 and loved until he hit 50.... when the reading challenges started... now he has to wear readers all day at work.

Curious how everyone defines/measures success. Is it more quantitative like getting to a certain AUM and production level? Or qualitative like positive client feedbacks and referrals from clients?

Live in Jersey City. Drivers license expiring next month. Need to get mine transferred from Mass to NJ before renewal. DMV during COVID is giving out tokens at 5am and folks need to wait for 6-10 hours outside the office apparently. Does anyone know an easier way to do this? Driving schools? Brokers? Thank you!

Just got an offer from McK for Associate position. Told my dad and now he says he’s not paying for my MBA since I landed this without it. Can’t believe he’s doing this. Sure, he paid for my UPenn undergrad, but MBA isn’t that much more 🙄

Been in big 4 FS (Financial Services) advisory a little less than a year. I hate FS, but it seems like if I stay here I'd be stuck on projects in FS forever. Should I stick around for the 1 year mark?

I am in my first HRBP role. It has been a role I’ve been wanting to focus on and get in to but never got the opportunity to do so. My imposter syndrome has kicked in, especially since it’s all remote too.  I was wondering if anyone can give some advice on how to build that trust and relationship piece with managers to be able to succeed? I feel like my fear is holding me back and I am so afraid of failing again.
