Yeah. Emdr (form of trauma therapy) specifically around money/financial abuse has helped a lot.

Yes. Parental abuse that turned into personal habit and self-abuse in the form of comfort purchases. I love that someone mentioned EMDR. It works.

Examples? I made all kinds of mistakes. No 401k until 30s, lots of student loans (both spouses). Just bought a million dollar house that needs work.

Well that's good. Personally I found the cost of a financial advisor to be helpful for accountability. Not for spending (I'm cheap), but for investing behavioral finance issues that keep hurting me.

I want to replace my phone. I intend to stay in the Android universe (let's not go there on this thread. . .) but I'm thinking about trying something other than a Pixel.

I believe the "best" Android is the Samsung Galaxy family. Is there anything other than Galaxy or Pixel to consider?

If you're saying Galaxy, can you give me the cliff notes version of the 52 Galaxy's on the market? Pluses, ultras, UWs, 20, 21, and 22? Is that just size and model year differences?

Additional Posts in FIRE Financial Independence Retire Early

I found a great great home near family perfect location to things, decent size, but is expensive. I don’t have $120k to just drop for the down payment (I want to have money left to furnish or just spend) my salary is under 6figs and even if it wasn’t I feel like it’s still not enough to rack up $60k within 1ish year. Does anyone have any side business or alternative income ideas to earn more money? I don’t wanna go an FHA loan for the 3.5% cause mortgage will be very high. Thoughts?

How can I start to have more of an abundance mindset toward money instead of a scarcity mindset?

Is anyone here familiar with an investment calculator that allows you to change the amount you invest each year? For example: invest 20k at age 25, 40k at age 30, etc.

Folks, I have set up automatic investment into my IRA for 2022. My monthly amount is slightly higher than it should be meaning I can potentially overshoot the limit by end of this year. (I am trying to front load my investment at the start year hence more money)

My account is with Vanguard. Would Vanguard automatically hit pause on the investment when the limit is reached?

Just cleared $300k selling my primary residence and will move back into a house we used as a rental. Looking for investment recommendations with the $300k. Should we buy a business like a bar in a college town, buy a multi family property? Or break up the principal and invest into a mix of bonds/stocks etc?

Regardless of what the Fed says, it looks like USD is steadily (rapidly?) inflating. Emergency fund is 80,000 (plus 10,000 reserve for a rental). What to do with it to hedge against inflation?

Thoughts on increasing apartment spend from 20% of take home to 30% of take home? I invest 15% in 401k and an extra 2k/month after that. Outside investing would likely reduce to 1500/month. I have been spoiled with low rent (currently have 2 roommates) but looking to move in with bf. 30F.

Are there net worth checkpoints at which you should be adjusting your investment strategy (either motivated by taxes or returns)? If so, what are they and why? Not thinking for the super wealthy rather the average 🐟. Disregard the natural progression to less risky assets as you get closer to retirement. Just thinking more in line of "I now have $400k liquid, I should be doing x instead of y." Thanks

Are there steps to follow for FIRE or?

Anyone planning to FIRE In India? How much $ are you planning to save

Which city/state do you plan to have your main residence when you RE? Which city/state are you in now?

Has anyone partially funded college for their children with Roth IRA withdrawals? I think withdrawals for education expenses are not subject to penalties for early withdrawal. Did your children get "penalized" when applying for scholarships because their parents had Roth IRAs to fund some college expenses? Considering routing 529 contributions to a Roth IRA. If my children don't go to college, at least I have more retirement savings.

Recent college grad. 25k in savings.15k in checking account and 10k in Ibonds. Is it bad if I get liposuction before I start my job in July? Thinking of paying for it on a credit card to build credit

Is there a FIRE recommended resource for how to structure investment portfolio @ different life stages - e.g. how to invest when still tackling loans, after purchasing a house, etc.

I am 31. I have $750k in assets and 400 in liab. Net worth is 350. Largest assets (excluding real estate) are 120k in 401k, 40k in brokerage, 20k in crypto, 25k cash. Own property totaling $550k (2 condos) but debt of 350k so 200k of my net worth is in real estate. Student loans of 30k. Thread continued 👇🏽

How do you measure fire readiness when it Comes to real estate ?

My current + pipeline homes (2-3) year stats:
Purchase (10 homes) 4.3M
Down- about 25%
Market value- guess if 5.4M
Equity of 2.1M , net equity of 1.0 if exclude my down payments
Cash on cash isn’t best but about 4.5% ( lived in some of these homes)
Net income- 50k/yr

Clearly high assets and loans with small cash compared to current income but building wealth. How to measure fire - income? Wealth accumulation?

Would you move to a different city, pay 50% more in rent for more career opportunities and increase in quality of life?

1k -> ~1.5k in rent. Already max all accounts, 100k NW @26yo no debt - 100k income.

Living remotely in the mountains since I wanted to be outdoors all the time. After a year, I've hit my limit and want to go back into an office/bigger city to socialize more. Balancing between FIRE and living life now.
