Anyone here on a 80% flex schedule? If so, is it truly flex esp during busy season? Expecting 1st baby and considering whether I should do that. I’ve heard you end up working just as much for less pay

Just a side note: if you leave public you can get 100% of your salary for working 40 hours (with the right employer)

It’s reduced pay in exchange for being able to pull the “I’m on a reduced schedule” card once in a while

I've been through various degrees of flexible work arrangements (FWA). Unfortunately, with the type of work we do, there will be weeks when work just has to get done. But then you throttle back to make it up when work is slow. It will be up to you to stick to it, and communicate communicate communicate. Can't stress that enough. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. If you don't speak up that the schedule is getting out of hand, no one will know. The FWA does provide the hall pass so that you won't get handed the last minute projects since you're on a "reduced schedule". As a mom, you just learn as you go how to make it work on the FWA. Whether you find someone to help out with your kids, you leave work early then log back in again when the kids go to sleep or a combination of both is a personal choice. You will figure out what works for you and your family.

I tried a 40 hr work week year round and still ended up working some 65 hr weeks during busy season because client issues came up. Not sure how many hours you usually work, but it could be worth the pay cut just so you don’t have to do as many hours and your expectation is lower for hours. We are usually scheduled for 55 hrs, so in my case I would have preferred to be at full-time. If you’re expected to do 75 hr+ weeks at B4, then it might be worth the reduced schedule. First busy season with a baby is an adjustment (or even while pregnant with dr appts and birthing classes). If you can work from home to get hours in, it definitely helps. I think the key is being able to truly flex your hours to get work done (after baby goes to bed, etc).

Thank you all for your input, it’s very much appreciated!

I came back from leave during busy season at 80% and have worked 44s each week. I communicated with my leadership, teams and clients. Only have one week left before we return to 40s. The key is honoring your boundaries.

When you go on flex, make sure you remove some of your clients and not just reduce your hours.

If I was on reduced pay, and not just 40 hours concentrated over 4 days... you bet your ass I’d say “sorry, I’m only being paid for 3 days."

Hi mommas. Slowly weaning 4 month old from breast milk and wanting to move to only formula by 5 months. I know lots of people get formula shipped from Europe but that seems too much of a hassle. What US formula are you using? We’ve tried happy baby organics and Bobbie and I’m not sure which one is better (debating if having probiotic is a plus or no). Any thoughts welcome!

Hi all, New to the area and I’m looking for good dentist recommendations who doesn’t have excessive prices. My SO came in to an office and they quoted us $800 for deep cleaning after insurance, which is 4x what we paid for deep cleaning at the previous dentist in Houston. They also wanted us to pay upfront before any procedure is done. That seems very sketchy to us, so we’re looking to get second opinion and switch office. TIA!

Leaving my glorious M role for an L7 nontechnical position at Amazon. For those looking to exit consulting, here are things that worked for me: 1. Be patient. I looked for over a year before finding this and dealt with tons of ghosting, rejections and discussions that were a waste of time. 2. Don't filter out locations. If the role looks like a good fit, apply. In my case this was a really niche job that is tough to match so we worked out a compromise where I won't need to relocate. (cont'd)
