Lots of work there - expect to travel a lot to KSA. Most of the consulting out of there isn’t local (assuming you end up in consulting). Dubai is 1 hr drive from Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi has a more conservative feel than Dubai and I know people that commuted to the other city both ways. I lived in DXB though - loved the experience. Dubai is more expat heavy than Abu Dhabi. In 3 years or so living there we met maybe a handful of actual Emiratis. 90% of people you meet are Lebanese, American, French, Canadian, Brits (SO many Brits!) whatever but not actual locals. Abu Dhabi feels more authentic if I am honest. Dubai seems fake like Vegas. But its also kinda fun like Vegas. Glad we went there - also glad we ended up leaving. Didn’t want to get stuck there forever.
I lived in Dubai for about 6 months and agree with everything you said.
Tbh - not hard at all. It’s not that popular as not that many people actually enjoy the “local lifestyle”, so they do struggle to recruit people and most of the time have to fallback to Eastern European ex-MBBs or others who’d be willing to swallow the downside of residing there for a decent monetary compensation. 🤷♂️
