Anyone here seriously pursuing FIRE (financial independence, retire early)? Just curious how prevalent the FIRE movement is in the Biglaw community.

I knew a guy who did it at my firm. We lost touch after he retired so I don’t know how it worked out for him. He was a 6th year when he called it and the partners still wonder out loud where he “really” went to work afterwards because they don’t believe he retired.

like

Haha, you know what I know. He worked like the rest of us for six years, and then retired as a sixth year. I didn’t know he was FIRE until he did it. We were work friends not friend friends.

like

Yes. Still 10 years out according to calculators, but really can’t stand doing this another 10.

Thanks for the tip TL1, now I’m only 37 years away! Hurrah

Yep. The goal is to hit 6m in value before 35, and then get 9-5 jobs until we’re 45. We joke that the 9-5 is only so that the kids won’t have to tell people their parents are bums.

Hi Anyone working atos for manulife/John Hancock insurance client. How's it in terms of work life balance, avg yearly hikes, growth and onsite opportunities.

Having a tough time getting a Product Manager interview. I have 3.5 YOE in technology implementations for a startup (my client). First 2.5 years were spent building my clients software, most recent year has been as a project manager for them. A lot of what I’ve done in last year overlaps ProdM responsibilities but I recognize it is a change. Am I reaching too much for a PM role? What are other roles I should consider to try to position myself to break into PM? Thank you for your help 🙏🏼

Curious to know which roles everyone is in and if you moved over from consulting. I recently left consulting for more impact, better $/WLB, but I’m not necessarily seeing it in tech. The consulting bowl hypes up FAANG so much but I’m not seeing the allure… fwiw I’m in bizops
