Have a close friend who does improv. She recommends iO over Second City for classes. Have heard the same from other people too.
Same as M1, a good lad of mine highly recommended iO over Second City
I took improvs there. This was a while ago, and I was pretty low on self esteem. While the experience was fun, the most “popular” students were the ones who knew a lot of pop culture and could crack jokes about them quickly. The focus appeared to be more on the jokes made, than the “loosening up” part.
Others had a good time, but being new to the country, and not being able to spontaneously come up with pop culture jokes, I didn’t get much out of the experience.
Obviously, YMMV
Can relate to PwC experience. I’m currently at Level D in SC, even though I can def see improvements still SC is great for people who want to build their career in comedy/acting/writing and offers a lot of opportunities for that. Being a traveling consultant with dif objectives i started to see that my pace is not necessarily matching to the rest of the class as most people are local, they go to shows a lot, do improv jams, castings etc. still lots of fun and improvement though. I’m def going to try IO next, just to explore “new ways”
I’m at iO right now and it’s great. I’ve heard iO is much better for improv while Second City is good for sketch writing.
Took improv classes at second city. Absolutely loved it. Helped my presentation skills and I got to meet the widest variety of people I ever did anything with. Even being part of that group helped push me out of my very comfortable comfort zone
Took a standup comedy class it was amazing
