Bhai, at risk of sounding arrogant, I'm very happy as a data scientist in my current organization.
I have around 2 YoE.
I have a bachelor's from a Tier 1 college and a master's in Applied Statistics from the best place in India to study statistics from.
I get paid above average(28 fixed) for my YoE compared to my peers, but it's mostly because I come from the 'right' quant and programming background.
Can't reveal the name of the organisation, but it's a global MNC with permanent WFH.
I guess it's ab inbev
Not working exactly as a Data Scientist but a mix of adhoc analytics, modelling and POC projects. Work is generally repetitive and can get boring at times. Associated in Banking industry. Will be moving to a mix of consulting and data science roles.
Data scientists is a bubble tech stack.
I am a 11yoe and Into DS since 5+years and currently a manager.
This is a over hyped techstack.
There's so much you can do about data.
Eventually orgs will learn that DS is an Overhyped domain and will not give much importance to it anymore. And then start the layoffs.
Fomo among orgs is what pushed the demand for DS. and this will burst eventually.
Stick around and find it out yourself.
Good to know that you are happy with your position. But if you see the whole industry, the picture is quite skewed towards bubble.
Indeed it will mature. Before that people need to gain the trusts of the business and have to rationalize the expectations.
I did not get bored but got tired of doing ML the last 3 years.
I did 18poc and only 2 models went till production. That too its significance in the entire product was very small.
Learning so much still i felt like i was a layman promising things i could not deliver.
Moved to a data Engineering from past 1 year.
Doing monotonus work from 6 months. Got bored this time
Now thinking to move as a platform engineer role.
