I've been fed twice in my career, first as a 13-14, then a second time as a 15.
I regretted leaving the first time, though I got a pretty sizable pay bump out of it. I liked the end to end ownership of strategic initiatives that I had at my agencies that I didn't get when returning to consulting.
Thanks for the reply.
I miss my WLB, but that’s the only thing I miss
I recently turned a 15 down - I have heard once you get to that level and SES that the WLB goes away and the work really never stops.

It isn't, in my opinion, but in those agencies the mission drives everything. If you're the type of person who's into the mission and is purpose driven, it's easy to justify it all.
One of my friends who was a DOD 15, since retired, spent about 20 years as a 15 working on the humanitarian and disaster relief side of things. If memory serves, he was the civilian in charge of all of those military support operations--stuff like Haiti relief, etc. Horrific WLB especially during a big disaster like that, but he absolutely LOVED the mission and work.
Left as a GS-14. Happy as the work got stale.
