“Just imagine the audience in their graves after you Krav Maga them into oblivion, it’ll help you relax”
Toastmasters, improv, public speaking.. martial arts if you’re expecting to fight your client over the SOW.
13 years of training, third degree black belt. It helps with confidence and discipline but not nerves when it comes to public speaking.
Second degree here, same as above. General confidence for sure. Also major punctuality skills from having to do pushups or run if I was even a minute late for class😭
Doesn’t help at all with public speaking, but is fun, healthy, and does make you feel more confident that you could break someone’s arm if you needed to. :-)
8 years of martial arts... helps with confidence overall, but not specifically for public speaking. Agree that Toastmasters or improv is probably what you should do instead!
Weight lifting is the big physical activity that can help with confidence for public speaking. not sure about any sort of martial arts though
I haven’t heard that for martial arts, but I would recommend an acting class or improv! Something that gets you in front of an audience.
If you compete, ie did wrestling or martial arts tournaments it’s higher pressure than most other things and does build character, but I don’t know if it is specifically the best for public speaking but probably does help a bit.
Nah I’m more shy cuz people ask me what I did this weekend, I don’t wanna explain what Brazilian jiu Jitsu is or how I got my black eye.
First degree black belt in TKD several years ago and did a few years of Chinese Kung fu (long fist and shuai jiao) - didn’t help with public speaking when delivering, but it gives you the back pocket ace in case anyone wants to make fun of your delivery afterwards. ;)
I don’t think winging your fists on a stage in front of a large audience would be a good way to boost your confidence but who knows
Female first degree black belt. Def not with public speaking but with discipline and confidence to slap a man who grabs your arm in the market place. If you do demos/ competitions though, it might help a little with comfort among big crowds.
ironic, I was thinking of taking public speaking classes to improve my self defense skills
I did tae kwon do for 6-7 years as a kid, and don’t have any real issues with public speaking...but have no idea if the two are related in any way. Agree with IBM1 that an acting or improv class would be a more obvious choice
No but it helps with my confidence in sketchy environments. Come mess with this Tai chi
It’s helped me a lot. Gets you used to having all eyes on you. Public speaking isn’t as scary now because I know I can’t get knocked out or submitted when public speaking. It’s just talking 😁
