I have heard universally bad things.

I work there. Would say the “toxic” reputation really depends on the group. Haven’t seen any of that personally. A few business people I work with are abrasive but I had way more abrasive interactions with partners in biglaw. I’ve heard AWS is more intense than other groups. My hours have been way less than biglaw so far. Comp to hours ratio is far better. For the interview process, practice behavioral questions as much as you can. Identify 5-10 things you’ve done professionally that you can speak about in detail. What was the problem you were trying to solve? How? Did others disagree with you? Did you convince them of your view? What about times when you made mistakes? How did you overcome them? They will also ask hypotheticals, but I don’t think there’s a great way to practice those.

Definitely times when you messed up or a time when you disagreed with a superior. They will then have a conversation about the incident as opposed to just moving on to the next question. So be prepared to describe those times in depth and how you ultimately resolved the situation.

I have a friend who left big law for AWS and her hours have hardly changed.

Sounds about right. The people I know in AWS have long hours M-F, but they don’t work on weekends. It’s really not expected lawyers work on weekends here across the company. In contrast I billed at least 4 hours every weekend at the law firm...

Currently in industry, on the product side with previous consulting background. I don’t like the grind of consulting, but Salesforce CSG (prof services) reached out with a BA role. I’m also in the process of interviewing at FICO as well. I like that the FICO is on the internal product side, but Salesforce has a great reputation. Feeling like I don’t know what I want. For reference, I’m leaving my current place because of terrible leadership & back to office 5x a week/no flexibility. Any advice?

I have been working in Talent Acquisition for going on 2 yrs. I was a recruiter then a talent acquisition coordinator. I really didn't like recruiting, felt like a sales person this was totally not my vibe. I'm loving working as a coordinator its definitely for me but I'm just not sure how to move to the next level or what that next level looks like. I am interested in learning/working in employee relations or as a generalist. Any advice on how to move up or what roles I should be looking for.

Hello! I'm trying to get a grasp of a good base salary and TC for the Chicago area. I'm a UX contractor being converted to full time and I received an offer for 100k base + 10% bonus. For context this is like a 30% increase from my salary as a contractor and the company isn't a tech company. I have about 2 years of general industry experience (web dev, web design, agency work) and 1 year of actual product design and finishing up a master's in HCI as well.. Is this reasonable?

I don't have a degree in CS so I consider myself lucky to have the job I have. Even so, I was discussing salaries with some of my coworkers recently and I realized I was being paid the least. Is it right to ask my boss for a raise if I've been working effectively so far?
