Yes. I have a personal connection to the VA as a veteran myself. After discharging and going back to school, I was determined to become a counselor for my fellow vets. While there is plenty of red tape that is typical for every government job, it's worth it because of what I get to do every day.
Is it true that VA pay you less than other companies? Or it depends?
Red tape is certainly a con. Things can move frustratingly slow and there is more paperwork than outside the VA (based on my experience, anyway). Pros of course are the benefits and stability.
I have to agree with this. Everything at the VA moves extremely slow. And you have to follow lots of procedures so lots of red tape. But it is relatively easy to move up the ladder.
