Anyone in big 4 considering making a switch at this point? I want to quit my job every day but the uncertainty due to covid keeps me from doing it.

same, going to start the job search on Monday. however, I’ve realized I hate accounting and tis not for me but I wanna stay in business. have no idea of which direction to go in so this should be fun 🙃 I know it’s risky, but I can’t be miserable much longer. also, if I don’t get out now I know I will just sit at this job forever trapped

Yup. My last day is 9/25

I want to. I changed my status in LinkedIn and some recruiters have approached me...I’m having a call with the ones who came with a good job offer...I also applied to a couple of jobs..

Not sure where everyone is but New York area has picked up this past week compared to August. I’ve been interviewing a ton and just found out today I got my first offer coming in the next few days! Feel free to ask any questions

Thanks guys. Glad I’m not alone. I’m planning on making it until 10/15 (tax senior here) and then looking elsewhere. Besides having no work-life balance I am also not happy with my field but I would probably have to sacrifice $$ if I were to make a career change at this point...

Another way to look at it is: What are you losing by not making a change?

I’m about to quit- there’s plenty of opportunities out there!

like

Where, what level and which skill set?

I just left and starting in industry on Monday. Haven’t looked back since! Even with COVID-19, lots of places are hiring so send out your resumes and interview to see what your options are.

Yep, gonna quit once I get accepted to grad school. Hoping to find out in December so I can quit in January as I would need to take some classes which are contingent to the program.

Lots of firms with a bench. Unless you have a unique or niche skill, don’t risk being unemployed until 2021 and only leave once you have something else lined up. I get lots of recruiter contacts, fee of them are real, and the ones that are only give lowball offers

I am leaving at the end of the month and it was surprisingly easy to find a new job. The whole process took about a month. It could be my job level since there are probably more senior accountant positions available than manager and up positions, but I guess it depends what you are looking for. I worked with a recruiter and had a few opportunities presented to me, two that I liked and interviewed for, and one offer that I ultimately accepted. I was shocked how many companies were hiring. I’ll admit I am slightly nervous about changing in the middle of a pandemic and that possibly a few months down the line the recent hires will be the first to be laid off, but the new company seems stable. And I have plenty of wiggle room to increase my emergency fund with the industry pay bump! It doesn’t hurt to start looking, just make sure you have something lined up if/when you do leave.

People often seem to forget that you can interview and not quit if you don't find an offer you like... Which is why I always encourage people to interview. Find out how much you're worth on the open market and if you're drastically underpaid JUMP! The firm is never going to true-up your salary if you're behind the market rate...

In the past two weeks my work has picked up 10x what it was previously. Now I’m working 70+ hr weeks and often my projects are submitted nearly before deadline since I’m shuffling multiple at once. My team is understaffed and there’s no plan to hire people due to COVID-19. How do you manage to tackle the day instead of let it tackle you? I feel like no one knows how much I’m suffering since I’m WFH’ing and try to relay positive emotions over FaceTime or messages.

I tried searching here but didn’t see a lot - what is the reputation of Mar Vista (and if possible - how is that different than Brentwood?). All opinions welcome! 🙂

In a world of remote consulting work…. How long can the US maintain its high premium over European and, esp. developing market consulting? Both price tag to clients and significantly higher salaries for the people. I imagine may move faster at Big 4, etc. than MBB, but within MBB the huge cost and salary differentials feel… increasingly hard to maintain (even though I think the differential has actually gotten bigger, not smaller in the last two years). Thoughts?

Tonight Meghan said that she was concerned that “the first member of color in this family isn’t being titled in the same way as other grandchildren would be”. This was really disingenuous because none of the other great grand kids except William’s (for good reason) have titles either, so why would Archie be given one? This is why I feel like this interview was somewhat staged and that M&H are not exactly the most trustworthy.
