Chicago personal injury/med mal 1-3 year associates: how much is your base salary before commission?

It may seem obvious, but in my experience partners value trial experience over anything else, so get it however you can. For example, my firm will favor a former prosecutor who has seen the courtroom a lot but has no civil litigation experience (not even a depo) over a seasoned associate who has only second chaired cases with a partner but hasn’t tried a case. Even trying a case and losing gives you credibility at my firm because you still did it.

California litigators, what methods have you come up with for easy compliance with CCP 2031.280(a)? It’s fine with a relatively contained document production and limited number of requests. But when there are thousands of responsive documents to dozens of overlapping RFPs, with some documents responsive to more than one request, it quickly turns into a huge pain in the ass.

I got hit with a Covid layoff. How discriminating should I be about my next step? I've got about a decade of experience in big law, general commercial lit. I've wanted to go in house for a few years, but positions for pure litigators are few and far between. I'm applying for in-house and firm positions, and also a few firm administrative roles that I don't want to do. Should I just take anything I can get? I'm ok on savings, just worried about long term career impact.

Sometimes dealing with judges in Cook County feels like being back in school and dealing with bullies. I’ve grown a tough skin and a mouth that respectfully calls it out (when possible). I know it’s part of the deal. But, I’m so tired of it!
