Anyone in economic consulting looking into exit opportunities in business intelligence/ strategy? I feel the work is too narrow in scope

If you look at the D&A lifecycle, econ consultants seem to be pretty good in the middle (modeling namely in R). But they tend to be lacking in data gathering/engineering and dashboard development (since dashboards are rarely the deliverable). I’d skill up in these areas, and especially SQL.

Yeah I think we do have the experience in hard skills, I guess another thing is we lack exposure to dealing with clients at an early stage so practicing delivery of insights is something I’ve been looking into as well

like

I made that exact jump! I did economic consulting, specifically white collar fraud cases (and a little bit of IP) and then I left and did BI/data analytics and now I’m in strategy

like

Hi! So it’s definitely niche but I found the skills easily transferable. Since I posted that a year ago, I’m now in a more data/analytics heavy role at Accenture which is closer to my Econ consulting role. It’s all in how you package your experience! Making court exhibits -> making slides Excel models -> business analytics Client engagement = client engagement

Former NERA fellow here 👋 I made my switch to strategy consulting via going to grad school. Econ consulting is definitely very niche, and I struggled to make a direct exit to another line of consulting back then, so grad school was the best route that opened more doors for me.

like

What do you do in economic consulting exactly?

It’s actually pretty niche. Our clients are almost always lawyers who are defending clients from lawsuits. In m&a work we form the economic defense and supporting data analysis to back up their case in court, and our MDs are the expert economists who testify in the courtroom

like

Is NERA pretty much all antitrust??

All the senior folks basically have a PhD in microeconomics but a sizable number of analysts quit to go to law school and work for our clients

Prior to this ive only ever done FS operations focused consulting i.e. mix of implementation & operating model development/assessment. Hours usually 830-7. Got an offer for a strategy role at a big 4. What are the average hours like? Am I going to regret this?

Fishes, looking for recommendations on growing business development and sales skills. Finding and growing pipelines, establishing marketing materials, closing sales, and similar for services. I have on the job experience within consulting but never any formal training or education. Entering a new role where I'll need to build organizational capabilities from scratch. Any recommendations on programs, certificates, courses, books, or other similar ideas would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Deloitte Human Capital Consulting I am currently a student considering my options for careers. I have an internship lined up for Deloitte this summer in their Human Capital department . From what I can see it is a lot of workday implementation/other hr softwares. This is interesting to me. But I would also like the opportunity to be involved in talent strategy, compensation and benefits etc. But it seems like this really isn’t an option. Could someone please provide insight into this role.
