Speaking from Oil and Gas manufacturing in Houston. Cellphones not permitted on the shop floor.
However if the employee knew of a sensitive emergency we would allow them the ability to check their phone off the shop floor.
I’m reality it’s just like kids in high school, there was no way to police it if they were hiding their phones and checking them throughout the day when no one Was watching
Thanks! We do not permit cell phones on the production floor but have become a little relaxed with enforcing this policy when COVID hit. We had to remove their locker access due to close contact. Now we're running into employees hiding in the bathrooms to use their phones and not being able to hold them accountable, as you said very highschool. Something we are working through.
No use on the shop floor, we have designated areas outside of production floor to take calls, etc. We do allow it then to remain on their them so they can go to the designated areas should a emergency arise, etc.
