Anyone in their 20s start their career, get laid off during covid, and take a job they’re grossly overqualified for to pay rent and find themselves stuck due to the market? How long did it take you to rebound?

Yeah, took a job that paid 1/3 of my normal salary and worked there for 1.5 years before I was able to get back to my original career path and pay. It was rough, but never stop applying! That was my mistake. Preserve through it all and it will work out

Can I ask how you explained this 1.5 or possible 4 year gap in work experience to your recruiter/hiring manager without coming off as an employee with outdated skills? Did you find a lot of people try to lowball you or dismiss your experience because of this?

I consulted for a year when I was trying to figure out my career path (this was after multiple manager roles & previous work experience). When I recently started interviewing again for a new job, I would speak to that year of consulting but then realized it was better to just ignore it & focus on my achievements prior to that and then post that time period. No one asked about it. I think they assumed that life happened (whatever that could be - family, health, who knows) and they were fine to just talk about my other work experience and what I could bring to their organization.

How do folks see travel changing for Senior Managers in M&A after COVID? It appears like clients are becoming more comfortable with remote working so I have to imagine they will push back on Mon-Thu every week going forward. Critical meetings will be needed but I feel like the days of 70% travel are behind us in more senior roles.

Thoughts?

I am currently a manager. Accepted a position back in patient care for more money and a better schedule. Spoke to my RVP today who raved about my performance and was looking for feedback for the next manager. I do not treat patients and he was interested in how to best prep the next “non-clinical” manager as others in the region were fired or underperformed. I am wrong to be insulted that he did not offer a wage increase? Should I negotiate or run as I have been feeling undervalued?

I’m a Sr. Bi Analyst looking for new opportunities due to company instability and poor managerial guidance. Failure is like digging; you must keep digging to find the treasure.

Our perspective has tremendous power. Use it to dig. Here's how:

- Accept the present situation first before deciding what to do. You can’t change the failure, but you can find your next steps from it.
- You can’t change others, but you have absolute power over yourself. That’s more than enough.
- Be intentional about the next attempt.
- See what others did and how you can apply it to your endeavor.
