Anyone is DMV that can recommend a credit union or local bank? I have Sandy Spring as well as BofA and CapOne but want to go Credit union route for my next mortgage. Specifically in Reston VA if that helps.
Thank you in advance!

My mortgage is through Pentagon Federal Credit Union. Great rates and great service.

We did our mortgage through SECU and satisfied, although there’s been minimal interaction after securing the mortgage.

What’s a good baseline amount to keep in a checking account? I generally keep mine pretty low <1000 after paying CCs then dump the rest in savings. As I’m building a rainy day fund and then I will start contributing my brokerage account.

For reference <1 year experience at $4500/month (after taxes and 401k contribution)

I’ve only worked as a public interest attorney. I love what I do but obviously don’t get paid nearly as much as a big law attorney. I’ve never cared but I’m currently paying for a wedding, trying to buy a house, and have a baby soon after becoming a homeowner. Money would definitely help but I know I have some pros such as my work life balance. Any one else struggle with this? Making 200k+ sounds like so much money to me.

Has anyone here participated in the year long remote year program? My company is fully remote in the US and is in general supportive of me going but concerned about local and international tax liability. Remote year doesn’t share tax advice and our HR team is small. Curious to hear from people at companies who have done it before and if there were any issues from a tax or payroll perspective. Trying to get the formal approval from my company before officially signing up, advice welcome!

Hi :) can any BCG fish help me understand the retirement benefits? I got my offer and start in Jan. Looks like they will contribute 5% to a profit sharing retirement fund, but no matching to the 401k, is that right? Is there a benefit in that? Previous employer would match 4% in 401k so just not totally clear on what’s more beneficial or how they differ.

Also, who do they use for 401k plans? Currently with ADP.
