Decided that I’m leaving audit today. Trying to understand the full range of opportunities in forensics. Will have my CPA and CFE. So far, I understand that there are client-serving firms like FTI and then the B4 will have forensics arms as well. What are some other forensic accounting roles? Pros and cons? Better than audit? Honestly just looking to learn anything.

Food for thought: I think if everyone bills every hour he/she spent working on a client engagement, we would easily hit our revenue target for the year.

Do the project managers get to tick on ONL for non-milestone year practitioners as well?

I’ve heard different ways for how to calculate managed revenue. Add up the revenue of you + those who you manage from the data base tool. Multiply the revenue for the engagement by your portion (if there’s two managers on a project, take the project revenue and divide by two). If you’re the only manager and you handle the Mercury items, you get credit for managing all, even those above you. Are any of these correct? Is there a standard way to fill out the scorecards or is it just more of an art?

Considering leaving federal advisory for an internal staff accountant role. I don’t want to be a consultant or talk to clients anymore. Only downside is the potential pay cut, but it might be worth it for my mental health.

At what point in my career would my public accounting salary exceed an industry salary? Current an A3 making 54,900. In industry it looks like Senior is at 75,000. Assuming 12% annual raises in public and 3% annual in industry, it looks like maybe it wouldn’t take too long. I’ve heard industry raises are nowhere near what they are in public. Really looking for a discussion here. In industry, it almost seems like they tempt you with a big starting salary, but then soon you’ll be under public.
