Anyone just feel like you want to drop your career and do something entirely different? I’ve been in NYC for 6 months and came to progress in my career because I felt stuck in my old city. (Cont’d)

Now that I’m here I still have that feeling of “I just want to quit my job and work a random gig.” I’ve been a designer for 5 years and at this point I feel like I’m just collecting a paycheck and really lack the passion I once had. I can’t even seem to do side projects anymore. Should I explore a different position in my field? Any advice would be appreciated.

I hear ya, just don’t underestimate the benefit of a paycheck, if it’s a fair one. But take time to start a fire in a new career area that makes you happy.

The passionate periods and the burnout periods are cyclical. I’d recommend taking a vacation or trip and recharging the batteries. If you still feel like you want out after that, then maybe consider switching industries

Take a vacation and invest serious time into a side project. Or even better, just start doing one every day. It's never going to be easy to find inspiration under the weight of corporate work, but when you do and turn it into something outside your career it feels amazing.

Not everyone makes it in NYC.

I’m doing just fine in NYC, I’m good at what I do, doesn’t mean I have to like it.

Take a break. Move away. Quit. Separate. If you miss it, go back. That’s what I did. If you don’t, do something else.

I recommend some combo or weed, psylocibin and/or LSD to help reset.

I think taking a break and doing something completely different for work is maybe what I need and then maybe coming back if I truly feel the need.

If you don’t feel passionate about design, I don’t think this is for you. Find something you like and move over to give space to the ones that really love what they do.

Guess I’m out. Thanks mate!

Eff this! I’ve clocked in 72 hours so far this week and counting as I’m working all weekend. How about you? I’m starting happy hour early! Cucumber Lemon Thyme Fizz. This is supposed to be a mocktail but turned it into a cocktail and spiked with gin. Cheers to 7/15!

I’m a fairly shallow person so thought even if I get the best possible SO, I will lose interest sooner or later. But then I realized it’s also due to the fact that I just like the IDEA of being in love, but never can truly love anyone where I put them ahead of me/my needs. Anyone else feel this?
