did this at my first job out of school in IB. Just wasn’t ready to work that hard tbh, unemployed for 3 months but fortunately started early (saving and investing since high school, internships, etc) so money wasn’t an issue for at least 6 months. Literally chilled and did nothing and felt amazing. now 10 years later at 29 am thinking of doing it again as a C. am just insanely burnt out of the hours, want an oppty to just breathe, etc. financial situation is exponentially different — wouldn’t need to work for at minimum a year if i didn’t want to, but it would vastly set the NW back. One of my good buddies who is head of strategy at a major company recently ipod just did it and is planning to chill for 6 months and doesn’t seem worried. the commonality is that we have the bank roll to do it. ambitious and smart people will always find a way to get back up, and i wouldn’t even categorize this as any negative milestone, sometimes you just need to stop riding for awhile and if you have a coherent story really don’t think it’s as that taboo. the question is do you have the bank roll to do it?
I’m in the exact same position (also a C) with around a year’s worth of expenses stashed up. I have good skills, which is my downfall, as I’ve had 0 say in the projects that I do and now it’s severely hampering both my growth opportunities and exit opportunities. Tempted to quit, enjoy the summer and do some soul searching for what I want to do next

Was it worth it? Let me work it. (Sorry, couldn’t resist.)
I was also in a toxic group at K (it truly was an awesome practice before new leadership took over and sabotaged a good thing).
Accepted a severance that covered well north of three months. Took two months off and then hit the job market to help ensure a profitable exit and landed a new position at a healthier firm with materially better pay.
No client or employer is worth sacrificing your well-being. Go get what you’re worth and take care of yourself in the meantime.
Functionally I had 5 months off, but 2 of those were unpaid leave before I declared that I was leaving. Amazing. COVID prevented travel but still enjoyed the time off. Was stressed by the job search, but was also so glad I had the time to do my search right and do some real self-reflection.
i want to do this soo badly. i hate my job and have grad school lined up in the fall. currently no/minimal expenses bc living with parents. someone enable me
Only caveat being: healthcare. If you can’t/aren’t eligible for your parents healthcare plan would advise coming up with a plan for this first

Did it earlier this year. No regrets, even with COVID. Was able to spend real quality time with family and friends and get my grad school exams out of the way. Started a new job 3 months later.
Quit, and got a new job after 3 months. Wasn’t too bad. Wished I had traveled more, but thanks to covid, just stayed home for the 3 months...

I did once earlier in my career. I was at an incredibly toxic industry firm that was getting materially worse by the month, so I just quit.
I'd already started my job search, so I hadn't quit cold turkey, but I ended up with about a 3 month gap between jobs.
My replacement job was a bit lower comp (went from roughly $110 to $95), but going to a decidedly non-toxic workplace with good people, good leadership, and good work made the comp decrease 100% worth it.
Take Sabbatical instead ?

Yes, the risk is that a few months turns into more than that and people start hesitating to hire you because you're long term unemployed 😅
