As someone who has been a govt’ employee… I can tell you it varies. Depends on the agency/dept, depends if the job requires a clearance, depends what’s in your background, depends if you went to school in the US or overseas. At minimum I’d give the process 3-4 months.
I used to work for the government. Can vary wildly, but the average is about 3-4 months from the time an announcement closes for a non-executive service GS position. The soonest I’ve seen one go through is around 30 days, and that was lightning fast. Think mine was about 5 months from application to hire date.

Long. It varies, but 4 months or longer isn’t at all uncommon.
