I am blown away at how disparate parental leave policies are in BigLaw. Keep posting about them, keep raising them to firm management, keep asking about policies in interviews, and keep raising concerns about them in exit interviews. We work way too hard in this industry (not that working hard should really dictate parental leave…) to not have adequate time to bond with our newborns and/or support our partner that just gave birth.
Hoping it catches on!
That’s awesome. I can’t believe firms still don’t have gender neutral parental leave…
What about gay men who adopt? They don’t do primary caregiver leave? I can’t imagine bringing home a newborn baby after adoption and only having 2 weeks home before sending the child to daycare or with a nanny!
DLA’s policy is completely gender neutral. I haven’t looked at it in a while, so I don’t know the exact amount, but I think It’s 18 or 20 weeks fully paid regardless of whether you are mother or father.
Yup! DLA implemented the policy early 2020 ish and I was truly pleased!

Is there a tracker for things like this? Would be interested to see what firms are doing

I just found out my firm explicitly allows for bereavement leave for miscarriages.

Noticed that in Ropes’ offer and benefits package and was blown away cos I haven’t seen that in any other benefits packages yet.
WSGR is similar
I heard anecdotally Fenwick is 26 weeks paid for primary caregiver.
A buddy of mine at Seward & Kissel has 12 weeks of fully paid maternity/paternity leave.
