Anyone know if getting the TD test once (negative) will mean you don’t need to get another test again the rest of your life? My employer is asking for it, but I already got it as a kid

Do you mean TB? No, a negative test once does not necessarily mean a negative test later. You could have been exposed in the many years since. (Now a positive test means a positive test forever so recurrent testing there is unnecessary and instead should be monitored for active TB rather than retested)

Deloitte 1: I’m not wrong though, X-rays can test for TB. Even if it’s not the most common way. Glad we agree.

They give you a shot and see if you react to it in a couple of days. If you do have a reaction it means you’ve been exposed to TB at some point in the past. It does not mean you have TB. They’ll do a more thorough exam and you may have to have chest X-rays to rule out any active infection. If it turns out you do have TB, it’s no longer as serious as it used to be. Depending on the severity, you take either a single drug for 9 months or a course of drugs for 3-4. I had a positive skin test 15 years ago and my anxious ass did a ton of research. I was fine. They didn’t think I needed to do anything so here I am, spreading my amateur medical advice on the intrawebs a decade later.

I had a volunteer job at a children’s hospital and needed a TB test annually. What kind of job are you applying for??

The one I took every year is a small fluid injected just under your skin in your lower arm to make a small bubble/bump. If the bubble goes away after 48-72 hours, it’s negative. You just need a nurse to certify it. It’s relatively quick and painless unless you have a needle phobia. Never had the chest x-ray. That seems like a hassle IMO. Not sure what the cost/insurance difference would be for one vs the other.

I teach at a college PT and I am required by the State of California to get a TB test every five years. It's really not a big deal.

Where are you going to work that your employer is asking you to get a TB test? It’s not exactly common in the U.S.

Hospitals almost always TB test, as well

I had TB vaccine in childhood so a TB test now is a chest X-ray and a finger up my butt. Had to have that done to become a US perm resident.

Same (mostly) I just had the skin test which came back positive because I had the TB vaccine in my home country and even though I had the proof they gave it to me again SMH. Also, as an aside they didn’t like that I didn’t have the chicken pox shot. I said it’s because I had them as a child but they made me get that one too. Was not expecting to get that many shots that day!

Just take the test again

I used to work in healthcare you need to get it once a year to be compliant at most places

Ask if they would accept a Quantiferon blood test instead.

My wife and I just had a baby boy and are getting a lot of pressure from her family to get him circumcised. Not for religious reasons but for social ones, they are worried he wouldn’t fit in. I am opposed to doing this our pediatrician said there was no appreciable health benefit and that today it is about 50/50 circumcised vs not in the US (much lower circumcision rates elsewhere) Is there something I am missing here?
