For men, <2% can be fatal, you’ll start to see cognitive impairment between 2 & 4%, but where in that range depends on the person. Consider that most top body builders are 3-8%. According to livestrong.com, anyway.

Yes but you need extremely low body fat %
You need to be at 8% bf or below. Source: me; competed as a bodybuilder where I had to get down to 5-6% bf. Even when you get down that low, you still feel like the skin obscures you’re abs....
Thanks for your anecdotal account, exactly the detail I was looking for. Aside from difficulty in maintaining low body fat %, did you experience any health concerns as a result of the 5 - 6%?

Although I’m not a bodybuilder, I was a sprinter in college. Working out will only take you so far, but you will also need to have the right diet to make it happen.
Slacking off in one area will undoubtedly have a negative impact on the other.
Your abdominal muscles don’t bunch up when you’re sitting, they are your core stabilizer muscles and regulate internal pressure in your abdominal cavity. They also protect your organs. The belly appearance from fitting down is body fat. If you want that to subside, as a male target around 10% body fat. Females would be somewhere around 15-16% body fat to obtain similar results. While this is a gross simplification, the aim would be high proteins, low carbs/low glycemic index, moderate fats. Nothing but fibrous carbs after 3pm (only veggies) and drink tons of water. Plus exercise (I like hypertrophy workouts with some HIIT mixed in during the week).

Just want to say that as a male you will lose all sex drive due to low test at that level of body fat (sub 8%). The hunger will be incredibly strong also. Something to think about.
Losing sex drive shouldn’t be an issue at 8% so long as you maintain base levels of fat and some starchy carbs in your diet. There are certain herbal supps that also help with that that if you want to maintain 8%
