Anyone know of companies that don’t have annoying case studies or skills based assignments that take time off from weekend or work hours? -_- Starting to feel like free labor and ideas they can use for the companies.

Probably not very good companies. They need checks like this to make sure you can actually do the job. Only do those studies or assignments if it’s a place you actually want to work for and think of it as an investment in your future

I’m finding companies that are not even well known are doing these case studies or skills based assignments. In fact, every interview I’ve gotten is requesting this. Have yet to come across a company that isn’t lol. I was just wondering if this was typical because it’s getting hard to manage multiple assignments and interviews on top of my full time job :( I even got feedback that I did well but they went with other candidate. Like fffs all that work for nothing

I didn't get asked at KPMG, but I was an experienced hire with several YoE so your mileage may vary.

Possibly, they were also on a hiring frenzy so that could've played a role too

From my experience, these assessments are used in the recruiting and selection process to gauge person-job and person-organization fit. With an increase in demand for efficiency and productivity, many businesses are turning to AI technologies to assist in Talent Acquisition. Embrace it, because technology will only become more salient from here!

Lol so basically you are saying that if you are trying to hire for a job using SQL, instead of giving the candidates an assessment to get an idea of how proficient they are in SQL, you should just ask the candidates one question: “Do you pink swear you are good enough in SQL to do this job?” And the candidate who pinky swears the hardest will get the job? I mean I guess there might be some company out there that hires like that….

Well I hate to say it, but obviously your job still requires some skills. It may or may not be “technical”, most employers will still try to assess your skill set beyond just exchanging of words and a bunch of generic behavior questions.

I’ve been waiting for security clearance since July and just found out I’m pregnant after trying for a year. I’m hoping clearance will be granted in early spring 2021 and I can start work soon after. Thankfully taking unpaid time off isn’t a big issue (won’t be eligible for FMLA or parental leave), but worried about timing and telling HR & my supervisor. I’m planning to tell them once I start; know timing isn’t ideal and stressed about starting off on the wrong foot. Any advice?

Hi all. Posted this in a different bowl and not getting any replies. Hoping you all can help. What benefits are smaller companies (under 50 employees) offering? How much pto? How big of a contribution to health, dental? Any spousal or dependent coverage? Any other less common benefits? Basically looking for ways to remain competitive to the degree possible with larger employers. Thanks!

Need gift ideas! I’ve been crashing at two of my good friend’s place for the past month and a half and I want to get something to thank them for letting me stay/holiday gift. Budget probably in the $100–150 range combined for both of them. They are both pretty outdoorsy 24 year olds so I was thinking something along those lines but can’t think of anything. All I have so far is a nice bottle of scotch. Please help!

Reminder to everyone: use your 2021 vacation time. Don’t let it pass you by just because you’re not traveling. Take a long weekend once a month to nap and eat chips in sweat pants all day. We all need to do our part to normalize self care, and sitting at home doing “nothing” is just as worthy of a vacation day as pina coladas on the beach.

Anyone interested in joining my team as a contract recruiter? The role can be remote but must be based on the east coast. This is a long term assignment with the possibility to go perm (if you’re willing to go to the office when the dust settles). Otherwise it’s for a large redoubtable investment firm in PA. $60/hr and you will hit overtime and receive healthcare (plenty of OT to make up for no PTO). Must have technical recruiting experience and our team is awesome.
