I have an opportunity to become a fractional CMO for a startup that I really like. I have no idea what to charge hourly. I’m reading online $200/hr+ but that seems crazy to me. It would be a 1099 role.

Am I underselling myself if I charge $150/hour for 10 hours of work a week? I typically charge this for my existing freelance rates, but that is not for CMO work.

I would even do some freelance research for no pay I just need experience in something other than FP&A (which is partly my role in my internship this summer). Got offer last week,negotiated base salary already,they came up around 4.3% (=current salary)
They offer 15 PTO, I have 20 (plus some optional days), trying to figure wording to now negotiate PTO, or is it too late and looks bad?

I’m a new associate working for a well-known defense attorney in my state. On one hand, I’m thankful for the opportunity to learn from one of the best, but he also excoriates and belittles me for my mistakes. Any advice on how much it tolerable? I’m a Jr litigation associate at a small firm. Juniors are constantly told to bill for all their time and outs the partners responsibility to write time down. So I’ll bill for everything, incl. .1 for emails I’m just copied on or when I’m following up on work I’ve turned in with no response. I’ve just been told by a fairly new partner to no longer do this. I’m inclined to check with other associates on whether this is what they’ve been told (lots of inconsistency) and ask my EP. Thoughts?

I would appreciate any advice on how to stay on top of non urgent tasks. As a 2nd year, I’m often tapped to handle tedious tasks that need to get done quickly. Tbh, I like urgent matters. It motivates me and helps me focus. I admittedly struggle to care about checking in on DWQs, record requests, OC’s discovery, scheduling matters, etc. Especially with so many cases. I definitely rely heavily (maybe over rely?) on the paralegals for these sort of things. Any tips?

How do you succinctly explain to a non-lawyer what you do? If I respond, “I’m a litigator,” I feel this means very little to a non-lawyer. To make matters worse, I am junior with no specialization, so I can’t really answer what type of law (“uh, whatever the partner assigns me which has lately been employment”). I often will say that I am defined by my skill set of representing clients in disputes and in court. But don’t feel I’ve nailed a nice elevator pitch (or shorter) of what I do.
