Everyone gets a day off, but it comes with an assignment: go out into the world and see or do something you never have before. It could be a block you've never walked down, a book you've never read, a type of food you've never eaten, etc. Then present that experience to the group, why you picked it, how you felt about it, whether you liked it, etc. Dont make it any bigger than that. None of it needs to be profound. But everyone on the team will have experienced something new and learned a lot about each other.
Honestly I get a huge motivation pump from my CDs just reaching out 1:1 and asking how I’m doing. “Hey, you’ve been doing great at work, but I just wanted to see how you’re feeling outside that? Keep it up.”
Forced bonding meetings have gotten old and tend to annoy us more than anything.
Day off
THIS! Nothing builds morale more than being appreciated, and nothing shows appreciation more than giving a human being time to do whatever they want to do. For God’s sake don’t make them sit through another Zoom call with each other.

My team has done this before too and it’s a lot of fun!

Getting rid of Zoom happy hours would improve morale tremendously.
Gift cards to get food and surprise half days
I really liked doing a wine & paint class live with everyone on Zoom. We got sent painting kits and all started doing our art at the same time while talking about life.
It was super fun to focus on something, drink, get to know each other with fun conversation starters, and at the end you’re proud of having tried something new for most.
Was gonna say something similar! My agency did Airbnb virtual experiences which were fun. They have baking classes, drink making, etc
Did Zoom happy hours ever not feel bland?
Yes. This method has worked 100 percent of the time no matter what agency or department. Give them all raises.
Now there’s some irony
Give them coupons instead of raises
A subscription to the Jelly of the Month club instead of bonuses
Surprise four day weekend. Surprise handwritten note of thanks delivered to their house. Something human and not forced fun.
You’re a little late to the party
Thanks for your help.
I think it depends on the type of morale issue. Are they feeling disconnected and siloed? Are they burnt out? Are they overworked? Are they feeling like it’s a thankless job? Are they feeling their growth is stunted?
If it’s all of the above unfortunately it’s not going to be ONE thing that fixes it.
There is also something to be said for consistency when it comes to small gestures and celebrating wins bigger than usual since the separation makes everything feel more minimal.
