Anyone know the deal with the M&A group at Gibson Dunn DC? Heard it’s former Kirkland partners but not sure if that’s good or bad.

I see news articles all the time about Big 4 entering the legal market. Has anyone heard of this? I’m curious to see if an attorney providing legal services while working at B4 will make the same as a big law associate. Could this be the end of the huge big law starting salary?

My husband and I hosted my mother-in-law as she was looking for an efficiency to live in. (We are from Miami.
Today was the last day we agreed to have her and she hasn't found a place because she is attached to her 3 dogs.She also makes 24k per year so it's tough to find something in her price range.
She said she was going to sleep in her car until she figured it out. I feel bad,but at the same time she is unwilling to adopt her dogs to adj for circumstances.I am torn about extending her stay

What's the best strategy for getting relevant Investment Banking/Capital Markets related internships (specifically in the fall)? I would even do some freelance research for no pay I just need experience in something other than FP&A (which is partly my role in my internship this summer). I would love to start in investment banking/PE but I'm afraid that graduating in three years makes getting relevant intern experience incredibly tough in such a short time frame. Any advice?

How long does it usually take to hear back from an agency once you apply for a job thru one? I submitted my resume thru an agency last wed. and haven’t heard back anything since then. Just curious..

For those who have lateraled as an associate, how long did it take for you to clear conflicts? What’s the average time? Has anyone not cleared conflicts?

Has there been a mass exodus at firms like Jones Day that don’t give bonuses? Corporate work is brutal right now and the money is the only thing that would make it (somewhat) worth it.

For the folks at V30 firms, how is the work load? Is everyone still too busy? I’m thinking about helping out a buddy with a new book of business, but want to get a realistic pulse on availability.

For the last four weeks or so of WFH I’ve been making it to my desk around 7:30/8am and working basically without a break—lunch at desk- but cannot maintain momentum past like 6:30/7:30pm. Most of the day is billable work, but I cannot bring myself to finish outstanding assignments after 8pm, but then feel so guilty when I’m not working past that time. Am I burnout or fucked up? (Also I hate this gig & am not in it for the long haul, just hate not turning things quickly)

Someone on my team sent an OOO for Wednesday - Friday of thanksgiving week.... l o l the fact this associate felt it was necessary to do this is sad on the firm culture/biglaw (the associate is an awesome person / coworker btw)

Lit boutique v. full-service statewide regional firm as mid-level commercial lit lateral out of biglaw. Things to consider? Pay and non-equity partnership prospects are similar with similar timeline. Regional firm has a much stronger presence in my city, while boutique would involve a more national practice and possibly more sophisticated work. Fwiw I know some people at the regional firm and the people seem awesome. The boutique is full of well-accomplished and super smart lawyers. Need advice!

Needing clarification on billing - if you and 2+ other attorneys have a scheduled conference call/meeting on a particular matter for a client - do all the attorneys on the meeting bill their time?

My firm is overworked, under staffed and underpaid. $125k to bill 150+ hours a month. I have 10 active deals on my plate. I need a new job ASAP even if my hours are reduced and my salary is reduced.

Have some potential hits in BigLaw. But say I don’t particularly enjoy my current practice area (X) and would prefer to do another area (Y). If I receive and accept offer, can I then internally get work for Y, while just sucking it up and doing X for a couple years in hopes of transitioning to practice Y?

Anybody else feel like this job makes you a horrible friend? Especially with respect to those friends who don’t have jobs like yours and can’t relate? Any advice on maintaining friendships would be greatly appreciated!

How do I go from a corporate lawyer to banker with no finance background

Moving from government to BigLaw as a 6th year. Since I'm coming in as a mid-level, I feel like this transition is different than a junior whom partners expect to know little. Any advice?
