Yes. It means all the flight attendants need to let the captain know that the secondary doors have been disarmed and they’re ready to open the main boarding doors and allow people to disembark.
Cross check actually means to check the door opposite yours that another flight attendant is responsible for disarming (a flight attendant is responsible for disarming one door and checking a different door that another flight attendant was responsible for disarming).
Depending on the airline, there’s different wording but in all cases there are three steps
- “Disarm doors”: set doors to *not* automatically deploy slides when opened
- “Cross check”: check that the opposite side (left/right) door has been disarmed correctly by the other flight attendant
- “All call”: hop on the plane internal phone system at your door for a conference call and respond when asked, usually head flight attendant will run it (“door 1L” “checked”, “door 1R” “checked” etc)
For example, on Qantas the instruction is “cabin crew, disarm doors and cross check”. The “all call” is signalled by the chimes in the cabin (those dings that you’ve probably never taken much notice of)
