INDUSTRY VS CONSULTING COMPARISON THREAD
Joining Industry has been pretty interesting. I’d love to hear about the little nuances you’ve noticed after making the switch.
I’ll go first:
- The concept of a “boss” is very real. This person is largely responsible for your career, knows your salary, and has influence in things like internal transfers
- The idea of working FOR your boss is also new
- No time sheets or utilization
- Decks and presentation skills are way less polished
I've watched LinkedIn go from professional networking platform, to Facebook, to dating app, to message board for terminal cancer prognoses/obituaries and I think this is by far the saddest iteration

Do you have any recommendations for good but affordable vets in NYC? I just took my cat to the vet (Bond Vet on UES) today and was hit with a $600 bill for a skin lab test, a urine sample, and basic bloodwork. I don't know if this is standard or on the expensive side. Thanks!
Looking for a NZ recruiter if anybody can recommend one? Time to skip out on consulting I think.
Do in-house roles have conflicts checks?

Does anyone use Skype for client meetings? I have some out of state clients and I would like to email docs then review face to face if possible.
Not a CFP so I’m not truly in the know. That said, if I’m reading this article right, 10/2019 to maintain your CFP, you will have to drop your 7 license if you are dually registered?
What are some blogs, websites, newspapers or magazines that you guys read to keep up with this industry?
My paraplanner is wanting to get started with his CFP. It's been a while since anyone in my office has needed to go through a program. Looking for advice, what path should I suggest; Kaplan, Bryant University, Boston CFP, something else I don't know about? Looking for your ideas on what might be best to use as an educational source for the CFP these days?!? Thank you.
Knowing your work-life balance now/happiness, if you could go back to when you started, what would you honestly say to yourself? Persevere or quit?
So I just had my first honest conversation about going Indy. I’ve been here for over a decade and run a solid business. Will gross a little over 650k this year, and nothing is really wrong. Continued
If you offer to meet on a weekend/day off, how do you dress? I feel like it should be acceptable to dress casually but also feel self conscious that I’m not portraying a professional image.

According to their ADV they have 95% in equity 4% BDC (which seems odd) and 1% cash.
Fisher is a joke
Guy I know got fired by LPL for multiple felonies (drugs and gun). Works for Fisher now.
RVP, I have had to dig into a lot of pasta using brokercheck and the above IARD system in interviewing, I’ve been amazed at how many people try to “hide” from their past.
I know we disagree with credit scores but I’m sure we agree with those background checks.
I think 1.2%
I had a friend who couldn’t hack it as an FA at one of the wire houses so he went to fisher because they offered around $80k salary plus bonus potential of around $20k to be “relationship manager” basically making calls to fisher current clients each month. I remember I actually got a call from the same recruiter that same month with the same offer and almost considered taking it because a few years ago that seemed like all the money in the world. Decided to give FA one more shot and joined independent office instead (I was at a different wirehouse prior), boy was that best decision I ever made.
