a truth about any small agency with hands-on executives is that your experience will be 100% dependent on your relationship with those executives. so i imagine the folks who say Terri + Sandy are great had a great relationship with Terri and Sandy, and that the folks who say Terri + Sandy are awful had an awful relationship with Terri and Sandy. another truth about small agencies is that friday 5pm fire alarms that keep you working all weekend are a lot more common. just the nature of small agency life. they make respected work and i would work there for a year at least for the clout alone

Helpful and good conclusion thank you!

Don’t have any personal connection but I have some friends who worked there for a year and were let go. They said they didn’t love it but now they’re at Wieden. Believe they worked on Disney (and everything else prob) but can’t recall

I’ve worked at a handful of agencies and I have to say Terri & Sandy care about their people. Everyone is nice here. Compared to other places, there’s definitely a work-life balance. The work can be flat and over-engineered by strategy/account, but there’s currently an appetite to push it. Whether the structure allows it, we’ll see. But it’s a solid place to work and a nice change of pace. Especially if you’re frustrated at a big network agency or you’re at a sweatshop and experiencing burn out.

Help with comp negotiation: Was offered a mid level role with fast growing tech co valued at ~$6b. They are offering $140k base and 30k options (number of shares not $) vesting over 4 years. Likely annual bonus of either $20-40k or 10k shares. What’s a reasonable counter? Current offer base would be a pay cut for me, but I believe in the co.

Why does everyone say PE is a “low risk” way to make a lot of money? Once you hit VP level, isn’t the majority of your compensation in carry, which doesn’t get paid out until 5-7 years AFTER it is earned (while in consulting, your bonus is paid out in the year it’s earned)? And if you look at the CALPERS database, don’t many funds of mega fund/UMM PE firms fail to exceed the hurdle rate? So even at established UMM/MF PE firms there’s a possibility you’ll get no carry? Am I missing something?

I know right now many people(especially in audit) are jumping ships from one PA firm to another! Please, please, make sure that you get the highest possible base salary and sign on bonus!!! Those firms don’t want you, they need you!!! So make sure to squeeze as much money as possible and remember that they won’t think twice to squeeze you as well as soon as you join them.

Ugh. I went on vacation last week for meeting my boyfriend’s family for the 1st time/his sister’s wedding. I’ve been trying to lose quarantine weight for the past 5 months ahead of this trip (healthier eating, working out 5-6x a day, calorie deficit). I was getting back to my old physique pre covid. But during this trip I just ate everything without thinking twice. Especially when his family would offer food cause I didn’t want to be rude. Now I feel back to square 1. Continued below..

I’m trying to stay positive but I am just so burnt out right now. I thought working at an agency in planning was going to be a dream role closer to strategy, but I’m less and less motivated every day because of the hours and the lack of opportunity outside of in the weeds, niche tasks. I worry about how my output will be if I don’t find a role I enjoy more with more of a WLB. Has anyone else fallen out of love with media planning, and if so where did you go?
