Anyone know what the hell to do with this market? I lost 40% then decided I was done with the volatility, pulled out, now it looks like it's rebounding.

Sounds like you’re gambling, not investing. People generally lose money when they gamble rather than invest.

Lol so you bought high and sold low

Lesson learned. The thing to do in this market is stay in, keep working hard, and stop looking at your balance daily.

I don’t know much about this but aren’t you supposed to hold when it’s falling due to something temporary? I just started buying when corona hit and this week it looks like it’s on the rise.

You only lose when you sell.

When you pulled out was the time to buy more. Buy low, not sell low

What's your investment philosophy and strategy? *Write it down,* be specific, implement it with what you just took out because you're letting emotions drive you, and look at your accounts no more than quarterly. Reallocate and adjust as your preferences change.

E.g., mine:

I cannot time or beat the market. Neither can anyone else. I am buying and holding for the long term (20+ years) and am therefore unfazed by volatility. Crashes mean stocks are on sale. I will buy no load index funds with the smallest possible expense ratio, will not pay anyone a percentage of assets managed ever, and will select as few funds as possible to hit 90/10 stocks/bonds, 60/40 domestic/international, 10% emerging, no more than 4% of overall portfolio in specific/exotic picks (grabbed some block chain ETFs for funsies. They're doing terrible!).

I’ve been really tempted to pull out, but those more financially savvy have suggested I just stop looking at the accounts and ride it out. Happy to say I was finally up a little today.

Risk tolerance can be viewed with three prongs: need, ability and willingness. The younger you are (the longer your time horizon) the more able you are to take risk. Also, the more stable your income, and the more your income exceeds expenses, the more able you are to take risk. The less you have the greater your need to take risk.

Willingness is quite subjective. But you want to have a level of risk that doesn’t cause you to react emotionally when markets dive or rise.

People should determine their risk tolerance and if they get it right they aren’t selling into the storm. If they are selling out of panic they got their risk tolerance wrong. It can be an expensive mistake but not if you make it early in your investing experience.

This is why you should avoid looking at your 401k every time there’s a sell off if you’re a long term investor.

Never pull out! It will always rebound. Invest !

What is the transition feasibility from in-house counsel to law firm. Really want to go into litigation. No bites on my apps. I am currently a criminal defense attorney with 1 year of practice from an office that provides great experience.

Managing partners: do you believe that the attorneys who rely the least upon their legal secretaries are considered more “self sufficient “? My colleagues are so tired/defeated - they stopped commenting on staff workflow issues and just put out the fires as they come. My MP suggested that maybe they are more “self sufficient” than me. At the time I nodded my head and accepted it… but I don’t think I’m unreasonable. When did the industry become okay w/ less than acceptable work from secretaries?

Maybe it’s the pandemic, maybe its the lack of social interaction, and inability to go out on the weekend. But lately I’ve been having tons of anxiety.

Hey everyone. I’m currently working in public interest & making about 60k. My job gives me retirement & health insurance. I’m also in the loan forgiveness program. An opportunity to go into private law for 60-70k WITHOUT insurance or retirement has arisen. It’s potentially a partnership track & I was told that it could be “worthwhile for me to take a risk” and go into private. I wanted to gauge what those in private practice thought. It’s a small firm. Would the switch be worth it overall?
