Lots of us are skilled at delivery but most sales books seem to focus on the pitch and closing... What are your best resources for learning to develop and nurture strong, lasting client relationships?
Currently working in Project Management and have about 8 YOE. Slalom approached me for delivery leadership consulting role. What can I expect to make approximately?
Here's the situation. I'm a freelance accountant. I have several part time clients, and one main 30-40/hr/week client. This is about the big one. The company has two co-presidents, but for the sake of clarity I'll call the person I directly report to the COO and the other the CEO - note the CEO also is the founder of the company. Again, I report to the COO. The COO is "working" in exchange for greater equity in the company and a crap ton of pay along the way. Cont.
Is the world really this political? Or does it just feel that way because of the hierarchical/client oriented industry we work in?
TFW your client decides to join you on site tours... checking out of hotel to join client tonight... Goodbye suite upgrade at the W.... hello Fairfield Inn...
Any good recommended books on how to build a scalable product and team? I'm looking for recommendations for two areas: 1) in general laying the groundwork in a startup to have the tools and especially processes in place to scale, and 2) tactical focus on building a SaaS project. I've been promoted into a management role from Dev roots, so need to learn more PM processes to be an effective manager in day job, plus would like to start building my own SaaS solution.
I am a developer and one of my performance metrics is "Utilization" (billable hours). I am finding it hard to meet this goal (get enough work from my project team), accomplish all my admin tasks, and take vacation/holidays. Any advice?
Folks, I just got promoted and joined this group. How should I approach selling consulting services? I am delivering services and not had much success farming given the client environment. How can I start hunting? Any steps or tried-out resources I can leverage? Help out a fella trying to do his job better 🙏
If you book a remote job at a project rate (and had based that rate on available hours during Mon-Fri), but now the client is expecting you to work over the weekend, how would you handle that?
Three weeks to leave for MBA, assigned to a new project. Please send me some words of support to not throw everything away and give up just now!
Call my manager earlier today and having a melt down. Somehow the manager still convinces me to stay on and continue the project. Amazing 😭
A partner said on a client call that we really miss an associate I’m filling in for and that the team should be up to speed when she gets back. I can’t help feeling a bit slighted by that. I get that she’s much more senior (I’m a 1st year who started a couple of months ago) but I don’t think I’ve done a bad job at all. My first brief was spot on arguments wise and didn’t have much redlines. Am I reading too much into it? Should I check in with him to ask if he’s unhappy with my work?
First time needing to edgarize a document (my practice is ECVC and have a client doing a Reg CF raise). Am I right in assuming that it’s just converting a Word doc or PDF doc into an SEC-specific format? Any recs on service providers? Would love a cloud-based self-serve tool and understanding of how pricing is supposed to work.
Been on vacation for 3 weeks now and was just assigned to a project for when I get back. Had to log in to sign background checks but completely forgot my password since it's been so long...
Staffed on a complex nuanced project just me and a brand new analyst who is not at all detail oriented. Keep having to ask new A to re-do work multiple times. Barely getting my own work done with consistent 8 am to midnight days. Any tips on how to manage?
Folks, any advice on applying for jobs at a previous client? As a firm we have great relationships with the senior client leadership and I am afraid that the GEP and my RL will eventually find out when I submit my job application. On the other hand, if I tell my RL prior to applying, I will probably end up towards the top of “people to be laid off” list.
I have a job, and I’m grateful that I do! But it makes me extremely unhappy. I’m talked down to constantly, our client treats us like we’re dumb and they have no trust for the creative team, and I’m constantly anxious. How do I find a new gig during these (forgive me for saying this) unprecedented times? Or what do I do/say if I want to switch accounts within my agency? I need some advice from other women who’ve been through this and succeeded at finding something that makes them happier.
Agencies (in-house or otherwise) who are worth making an effort for in Austin, TX, specifically for project managers and creative operations? Asking for a friend. (FOR REAL.)
What skills to study / learn that are relevant to M&A or Strategy consulting? Have been studying a lot of valuation, econ, strat, finance, M&A. Books / courses / topics you recommend?
My H1B visa transfer with EY has been approved. We have received the e-approval. Can I now resign or give notice at my current firm? The guidance apparently is to wait for physical copy of the approval before officially resigning. But that date is uncertain and I’m afraid I could get the physical copy a day before my start date or a week after that. I’d like to give my firm around two weeks notice and I am scheduled to start on 27th Sept. Thoughts? As usual, radio silence from my EY recruiter.
L1B to L1A then EBC1 - possible? I’m currently on a L1B at Accenture, based in US which will expire soon and getting extended. Accenture hasn’t been super helpful with my immigration inquires. I’m up for manager and debating if I should do the L1B to L1A transfer or just wait it out until my L1B expires. Do I not qualify for EBC1 since I got my L1A in the country and not prior to transferring with that 1 year managerial experience abroad?
Due to the labor shortage, pandemic, and poor upper management decisions, my ops team cannot support the commitments we made to our clients. I worked hard to build relationships and get their business only to see it crumble. What a mess. Is anyone else having the same experience?
Does anyone know how long is the H1B processing time right now ? (For new visa). My case was received on May 21st - Still have not heard anything.
All I can think of right now is the old REM song lyrics "It's the end of the world as we know it." I definitely DON'T feel fine. I'm not sick, but I'm sick about the US shutting down everything.
Hi, I am bringing together a team through a reorg any suggestions on how to bring a new team together remotely?
Client brief: We sell something no one really wants or needs, and most of the people who buy it end up hating us for selling it to them. Go!
Anyone know how product managers are positioned at Apple? I haven’t heard too much about PMs there compared to at other FAANG. Is it “true” product management, agile, or more like project managers?
WFH means more time with the green goddess. More time grinding the herb. How often are you guys meeting aunt Mary? Are you guys safely practicing puff puff pass? I am talking about weed btw
Hill Holliday is hiring! EVP of Growth is a priority but we have a bunch of other openings. https://www.hhcc.com/careers
Friend wants to join consulting for the pay. I don’t believe she has the aptitude or energy for it. We worked together in a much slower industry, and even there she complained of being overworked. I’ve sent her resources to polish up her resume and links for roles but she’s insisting on texting/long phone calls asking silly questions. Today she wants a resume review over zoom! She comes without having done her homework. How do I tell her I’ve given as much as I can? How do I decline referring?
When asked why you are looking for a new opportunity, is it ever okay to be honest and disclose that your company is doing layoffs?
