Anyone live / work in Seattle. Considering a move. Currently at smaller firm (150 employees) 3 YOE supervisor. Housing looks crazy expensive, should I expect to make much more moving to HCOL?

Moved out of Seattle a couple years to a cheaper, sunnier place. No regrets.

Housing IS crazy expensive. Absolutely absurd. Recently left bc the prospect of buying a house there was yikes. Rent is actually not too bad. On par with other HCOL area. But the recent tech boom has driven home prices disproportionately through the roof in the area. Accounting salaries do not compete with tech salaries in the market.

Seattle is an amazing city with an almost unmatched access to the great out doors. You can ski, mountain climb and open water kayak all in a day.

The core is very expensive, and the city is not without its problems. But the market is fun wherein you have some big tent pole clients and a whole interesting mix of mid market and start ups in every thing from tech to fishing to heavy industry.

I moved here 6 years ago and don’t regret it. I have managed to buy 2 homes on accounting salary, tho admittedly in the burbs.

As realtors, our worst and best friend are the contractors, being friends with the contractor that remodelled a home you are going to sell is a plus because you can know for sure what kind of improvements were made to the house and why; and what kind of things are pending to be improved, that way you can provide real information to the client. You know what they say: a happy client always comes back to you.

I don't have any knowledge of MS Excel and PowerPoint. Since my work was never related tools, I never get the opportunity to learn and implement them on real life scenarios. Apart form this I also don't have knowledge about any special tools. Basically my skill sets are limited to process knowledge, SOP's and SLA's.
I can work on Factiva and Capital IQ.
