Anyone made a jump from big law to legal aid? Do you regret it? Is the work more fulfilling despite the significant pay decrease? I just want to do something more meaningful.

Yes, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. Sure, the pay cut was brutal, but the work is a million times more fulfilling, the benefits are excellent, and I actually have my life back. I enjoy going to work every single day and I do not regret my decision one bit.

I only lasted about six-seven months. I was getting sick all the time and my mental health was in the shitter, so I made the move rather quickly.

Run the numbers and make sure you can live on the new salary. If not, scale back on lifestyle options until you can. If you hate your life more without those luxuries, don’t do it. If you’re fine without them, the fulfillment will absolutely be worth it.

I would love to, but the paycut is so severe, and I am single so without the benefit of another income in my life, so I don’t think I can afford to do it 😭

I’ve had similar thoughts. Anyone have insight on pay? I’m a fifth year FWIW.

A staff attorney position at the legal services org I’d love to join is between 50-70k. I really hope other places pay better!

How do I transition from a Senior Executive Assistant role to Project Management? Ideally I would like to work in tech. How should I go about this? I currently work in the Real estate industry so it would be a totally new career path. Soo what if I audited the company my brother works for, but didn't realize he worked there until after the audit was already over. For context, for the life of me I could never remember the name of the place he worked, and then my mom said it today and well.... it all clicked.

My practice got super busy after the pandemic. I have had a waitlist and been incredibly busy. It’s been stressful, but I have been grateful for business & to be helping people through a crazy time. This fall, I’ve noticed things slowing down and I don’t really know why. Has anyone else seen any similar trends (or know what might be going on)? TIA.

Any media freelancers out there? I am leaving my Full time position at the end of the month to take a break. I’m figuring out my next step and would love to get intel on how you got started

Left MBB 2 years post Mba to pursue equivalent pay and amazing wlb in a “big old tech” strategy team (think IBM, Dell, HP). I thought boring work would be fine in the context but after 1 year it’s getting to me. How would you think about exit timing to avoid “leaving too fast” but also avoiding becoming branded as an old tech guy? Does the old tech experience look bad for FAANG-like prospects?

When should I give a new client a heads up that I will take time off for mat leave? I started with this client about a month ago. There’s no SOW, and it’s a few hours a week for random projects. I didn’t tell them I was pregnant at the time we started. My plan is to work until the end of the year, and then take time off. When is the best time to let them know? Asap? A month before? I don’t care about picking things up once I’m back but I’d like to be courteous.

I was working with a partner on drafting a brief, who hated the way I wrote it, made me drastically change everything, increase the word count and spill my blood, sweat, and tears for months into editing it. Just before filing a different partner took a hand at cutting it down because it was too long - and he edited the brief back to the way I wrote it originally 🤦🏽‍♀️ Sometimes this job is an absolute joke.
