Why even take a year? I would consider skip-level promotion.
I call bullshit on all of it. When I was at D, that would NEVER happen. Maybe if you acquired Accenture for 3 boxes of copying paper it could be up for discussion.
I've seen it happen, superstars that don't follow the traditional path that go out and sell work which they end up being the engagement manager, rather complain that partners aren't selling enough work.

I feel like anything is possible if the politics and business case are right
I know an SM in Advisory that did it but has a strong business case and likely should've been promoted to M a year earlier.

I saw a lotta people who were managers last year and got promoted this year so yeah I guess so
What is this bucket of gold SM at the end of the rainbow got that you don't have now? (Besides a sales quota.) Remember, dear Grasshopper, its the journey not the destination.
