StreetEasy is expensive, so for high rise residential buildings which have a lot of vacancy they normally only upload one dummy ad to create some leads. If you are looking for high rise, DM me for referral - can split and share. They likely offer do virtual viewing if you are not already in the city.
Streeteasy. Went and saw something like 20 apartments in 3 days then chose one. Moved in on the 15th! Set up push notifications for a search that matches your specific needs and then check it obsessively. 😉

Don’t wait for apartments to be advertised.
Find buildings you like, and contact management directly. StreetEasy has a buildings section where you can look up all the buildings in a neighborhood.
What areas are you looking at? Look at TFC buildings, they have many options. At least thats what I see in my building (TFC midtown west), quite a few have left NYC.

I used doorsteps.com and found the perfect place that wasn't even listed on streeteasy/trulia/zillow
StreetEasy isn’t as good as it used to be. Agents told me that it costs too much to list apartments on StreetEasy and many are going for alternative apps.

Some landlords aren’t even listing their premium units so they don’t need to discount them or advertise vacancies. There’s a huge, renovated 1 BR on my floor that’s been vacant for a year. It’s not on my building’s SE page anymore.
