I got a discount from my insurance company for COVID. That also seems way too high for the types of cars you have. I pay 1200/year with GEICO with a 2018 Tesla model 3 and 2011 Mercedes C300. When I had my 2007 Camry instead of the Tesla it was 900 a year. Do you have a bad driving record? Just go online and get new insurance rates.

Comparing random policies is unhelpful, considering that progressive uses upwards of sixty rating variables, and you're only talking about two or three of them. OP's best bet is just to get some quotes from other companies and see if it's worth switching. Progressive did do a covid refund as well but it wasn't a lot of money.

I changed the miles per year from 10k per car to 5k per car (since that's all we'll be driving for the foreseeable future). Saved us quite a bit of money on our 6 month premiums.

And by the way, I don't really think it's "negotiable", but rather formulaic. You could certainly contact an insurance broker to get you quotes from a bunch of different insurers though.

like

Insurance companies are not allowed to "negotiate" with you because the rates are filed with the state and they have to be fair to everyone. However, you can make changes to your rating variables, as mentioned above. Lying about garaging location is fraudulent, though you are unlikely to get caught unless you have a claim, and even then not necessarily.

Just shop around please. This ‘advice’ to play around and provide different address / miles will hurt you when you have a claim.

Seems outrageous given my wife and i pay 80/month for a good 100/300 policy combined. Its always dependent on where you live and driving history though. We have a 2018 and 2019 equinox.

Yeah, insurance rates are not something you can haggle over. Like others said, each state has guidelines that insurance companies have to conform too. I believe the Progressive website may still offer the ability to get quotes from other insurance companies, try that if you want a "one stop" shop. I used to work at Progressive, it is pretty accurate. But bundling also effects rates/is a key discounting tactic, so if you are trying to price auto + home (or auto + renters) you may need to go to each provider website. Deductible amounts and cover levels are the key levers to play with, e.g. changing from a $500 deductible to $1,000. If you are confident that you and your partner are good drivers, most carriers offer usage based insurance. With either a phone app and/or device that plugs into the vehicle OBDC port, it tracks certain metrics for 30, 60 days. The driving patterns then set a premium level, which can be beneficial (again, assuming you are a driver than avoids rapid acceleration and hard stops, that sort of thing)

I changed miles and tested different addresses. Turns out there was a deep discount for “Parking my car” in my office address zip code. But also—call them.

Haven’t experience that in my case. My office is less than a mile from my house—no clue why the pricing discrepancy is so large.

Where do you live and how many miles per year, deductible, limits? I pay more than that for a single car but it is a performance car in a high theft area. Also I have coverage maxed out (had to to get umbrella insurance) with $250 deductibles all around.

I have progressive and when I moved ONE ZIP CODE AWAY, my rate jumped tremendously. I spoke to them and they walked me through as if I was opening a new account - I’m not sure where I messed up prior with my info when I did it myself but it came out to a lower rate. So essentially when old contract was up this new one started. Maybe worth a shot to get them on the phone.

Quick question from a semi new attorney: filed a case against an insurance company and a third party, one of the claims is a federal claim. There’s no complete diversity, so defense counsel moved to remove the case to federal court based on federal question jurisdiction. If the federal issue gets dismissed later on, SMJ is gone and we have to move the case back to state court. Does this sound correct to the rest of you?

My wife and I are saving $6500 a month after all expenses. Is it safe to take on a monthly mortgage of $3650? After insurance, taxes and PMI, the total due per month is around $4850 pre-utilities.

I recently made a big filter on what I’ll see on Linkedin and it can be incredibly inspiring seeing work from places and people you admire and not seeing lots of bs that messes with mental health and insecurities. Highly recommend doing that.
