Their big fat checks keep them happy enough and they know they have amazing exit opps. 🤑🤑🤑Both of which aren't true for us peasants.
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
There are fewer MBB people in general... trust me, our hours are worse on average... I will say I think the firm does work hard to mitigate/minimize the trivial shit we deal via things like first class and big perks... and I think the people help as well... I have some very close relationships that I vent to every day
100% agree with BCG1.
See, even in the MBB responses, they seem quite happy, content, and thankful. Super calm and relaxed 😂😂😂😂
I think ability to drive their own career is the biggest quality of life factor. Generalist model that allows exploration, and then a really well thought out exit process that allows people to find a good fit in industry if consulting isn't for them.
Yup^ I can't even count the number of job postings I've seen that say top tier strategy experience preferred and then go on to list the big 3 in parentheses
You're a troll or haven't been on here long enough
I think a big factor for me was the ability to have almost complete say of the studies I want to pursue. I have found that I have more say over my engagements than friends at Big 4, and even other MBBers. I think our global "one firm" staffing model drives that, and honestly being interested in the work keeps me happy most of the time and makes the trivial little things seem even smaller than they are. Also a strong culture with smart, determined and nice people makes it a great environment for working. Those two things--control over studies and amazing colleagues--keep me very happy at the Firm and I couldn't really ask for anything more.
Worked for Big4 consulting before and now with at BCG. Structurally same problems - hours, clients drive demand etc. But firm does a TON to ensure you're happy and I have a BIG say on the projects I take on. Once you establish reputation in first couple of projects, you pretty much get a big voice to say no to work that doesn't interest you. Felt that was a big difference to my time in Big4. People vent here too, but I feel those are more to do with consulting problems vs about the firm specifically. Also super smart and driven yet really humble people around you makes it a great learning experience on every project. I do think it's less about the $$ though.
Not the same league at all. I am sure many are not happy either with the lifestyle that constantly travel, but it is a different caliber of colleagues and clients they work with, plus higher pay.
Also way less of them in low margin crappy practices. Plenty of happy big 4 people just more unhappy ones doing low margin monkey work
I vent a shit ton, but mostly offline. Fishbowl responses from Big4 will all be "but u get paid for it" and "can I get a burner and a referral"
SA1 on point
Having switched from a big 4, totally agree with BCG1. BCG does a great job acknowledging they ask a lot of us, and then doing everything within reason to minimize the BS. I honestly believe the organization is set up to maximize consultant staff thinking time.
Interesting. MBBers say biggest factors are having choice on projects and not dealing with BS. I had that while at D for 4 years and I was quite happy. I think it's self-selection. Maybe people at MBB are more likely to ask for what they need (you can call it entitlement or self-awareness or whatever). I asked and I got what I needed from D. So the lesson is - less venting, more asking.
MBB knows well the people that leave to high places eventually become their clients
@M2 what practice/spec/geography if I may ask?
2nd year BA out of CHI. Hbu, Mck3?
I know plenty of MBBers who hated consulting. The difference is that MBB makes it really easy to transition out, so they spent 4-6 months dedicated to finding the right exit as opposed to 5 minutes each night complaining on fishbowl.
