I ordered a grass-fed cow from a local rancher and have 400 lbs of beef in the freezer. Definitely miles above in terms of quality. First few steaks tasted weird to me until I realized I wasn't tasting nitrates and filler.
10.7 cu ft - it filled it, though I probably could have sorted it a little better.

Sc1 - Supply vs demand.
PSA:
Because of covid - mass industrialization/processing of cattle, pork and chicken was slowed down. There are humans that have to work in those facilities, to load, cut and separate the animal carcasses, which means that groups of people in a manufacturing plant, grouped together in close processing lines, are at high risk of getting covid and spreading it. The workers in these meat processing plants tend to be very low income POC populations, who have no health insurance. With these workers catching covid & being hospitalized or dying, & Trumps border policies making it more difficult for companies to obtain a cheap workforce from illegal immigrants, we are at a shortage of workers in this industry. Additionally, the working conditions are so atrocious/dangerous & labor intensive, actual US citizens don’t want the jobs.
Lesson here? Shop local and think about limiting your meat intake. It’s healthier for your arteries and overall health anyways. Try eating vegetarian once a week - there are plenty of recipes online. The end.

Woody chicken is actually a known, real issue w commercial chicken operations.
Not sure what to tell you other than to find better quality meat or use less of it. We stick to our local butchers or Whole Foods or Wegmans for meat. Except for a few things that we know more mainstream stores seem to be ok for.
Good point. But it seems that I've experienced more woody chicken just in the last few months than ever before
Buy direct from ranchers to get a higher quality
I found my rancher at the farmers market but if you google for meat sharing or ranchers in your state I’m sure you’ll find options.
Get it from a Halal shop in your area.
I am not Muslim but got introduced to halal by a roommate who only ate halal. I can vouch for the freshness and better quality of the meat. However, a whole chicken costs 3-4 times more at my local halal store so haven’t been able to shop there much.

Go for “organic grass fed” always. And shop local.
I've been eating A&W twice a week this year and have noticed no difference!
Very interesting, seems price of meat is going up too. Anyone notice this?
Try to buy off the counter vs. packaged if you aren’t, especially at the typical big stores. I usually go to a butcher shop for special cuts as well
Buy Irish beef, best around, all grass fed I understand. I guess that rain has its benefits
@PWC3 if only 😂 I'd be long out of this consulting craic if that was the case
Are you recovering from covid?
Nope

Sounds like it's time to go vegan
I like steak too much
Yes. We used to buy meat at Costco but now shop almost exclusively at a local butcher who has way better quality
