Anyone on this board hunt and fish? Being a transactional attorney in December certainly ruins the possibility of getting out

Indeed. Those overpopulated whitetails should starve instead, as god intended.

Are you eating them? Genuine question, how do you feel ok killing innocent animals at peace in their natural habitat? I’m truly not a hippie or even a vegetarian, but honestly what is the appeal?

I’ve managed to hunt 2 times in the last 4 years. Probably would be more (1-3 times more) absent kids, but I feel guilty leaving the wife. Job plus kids is a killer.

Yes. Season is November for us, which I don’t think is much better than December work-wise. I do usually manage a day or two on/around opening day but definitely pay for it later in the month.

Anyone doing registered funds work painfully slow rn

I don’t understand how, but it feels like big law partners don’t get that we are only in this for the money (and they are too). “Experience” only helps me if it translates to future value. And “future” value means something different than it did 30 years ago when most people wanted to make partner.

Mid-level associate in top 50 ALM. I’m exhausted. My client got a new contact, and I now dislike the client. I have had maybe three days off this entire year. I’m in a niche market, so it’ll be so difficult — if not impossible — to find another job. I should be happy: My firm loves me, they want me to be partner (so they say), manage a large book, well-paid, etc. Anyone else going through the emotions? How are you getting through it?

Some partners are so stupid. In a free market system, if you want the good associate to work for you, you need to be a nice person. Otherwise, I have enough partners to feed me work and you’re the source of your own problem.

Is having an offer at another firm the only way to get a retention bonus? I’m still on pace for over 2900 hours for the year (5th yr in debt finance) and to be honest, a strong associate (currently enjoying life on 9 active matters...). I like my firm and my work, but I know I’m leaving money on the table by not looking elsewhere. Has anyone had success with these bonuses? While I’d gladly take a one month vacation over money at this point, I am trying to buy a house and extra money can’t hurt..
