Think you may need to rethink your definition of passive. I imagine it’s a ton of work
I don’t see that there could be much passive about it
you better run it or you will have the privilege of understanding all the details of chapter 7 bankruptcy (liquidation). the restaurant biz requires lots of care and feeding. imagine the worst person you have dealt with at your firm. multiply by 10x and that will be your #1 rest employee. go work for a well run chain (Morton’s, Chili’s, etc) for a year and work every role from dish washer to manager. if you still want to do it after that then rock on. otherwise remember this moment when you are living on your last penny.
grew up in the biz (family owned) spent 20 yrs in it (off and on) started at 9 yrs old. i’ve seen many more failures than successes. if you haven’t worked in it and have a solid handle on it - you will earn less than minimum wage and wish for your consulting job. 80 hour weeks are the norm if you are running it well.
Sorry I meant own as a silent investor/partner. Worked in a franchise for 4 years in college and we had owners who played no role in the operations of the restaurant.
Great work if you can get it but costs a million dollars right?
