anyone pivot from PE to corp dev? how has the transition been? considering for better wlb.

I have switched to software from non-cs degree.
I feel scared seeing younger cs guys doing better than me.
Is software not right for me ? 😟

I joined a later stage startup as a corporate strategy “manager”. I put manager in quotes as there’s no one else in strategy. It was fun the first 6 months when I helped raise equity and create an initial 5 year plan, but for the past 2-3 months I’ve been essentially doing FP&A work. Graduated with STEM degree 4 years ago and worked in financial services as a technical business analyst for 3 years. I made the mistake of accepting a role that has absolutely NO growth potential and has become a roadblock in my career.

I’m so incredibly burnt out—I’ve been going to sleep at 3 am and waking up at 7. I’m working 16 hour days consistently, and on Friday through Saturday I literally pulled an all nighter (until 11 am) to work. I don’t have time to make friends, let alone hang out with them, and all of my partner’s free time lately has been helping me stay afloat. I told myself I wouldn’t quit before busy season ends in March and put my team in a bad spot, but I honestly don’t know if I can make it to then.

Why is the compensation in US (so much) higher than that of other places in the world (U.K., Asia etc.). Most firms use the 2/20 model, with slight variations. Is it due to: 1) local talent market and need to pay more/less 2) returns of assets 3) GPs in US getting “less” 4) Larger fund sizes in US 5) Some other reason?

Hi fellow PE fishes, seeking career advice.
Currently in an APAC based LMM/MM PE focusing on tech and had joined the firm straight out of school. I intend on sticking to PE long term, but am curious about my career and financial trajectory in 3 cases.

1) stick to my current firm and eventually make partner

2) go for a Master’s degree and then move to an UMM/MF PE or MBB -> UMM/MF

3) Stay in the current firm and start my own fund with other Associates in the future.
