Org Development/Human Capital

Anyone previously work at Mercer or Willis Towers Watson? They're pretty well respected for HR Consulting, but curious to hear how they stack against Deloitte's human capital practice.

Mercer is run exactly how a company should not be run. Coming from Deloitte you will be sorely disappointed

Sorry to sound sour and Mercer 1 is right about less travel. I think you can negotiate to come in 10+% higher than Big 4. Company tends to be political, management does not have appropriate training , opaque career ladder, there is no investment on team building, hard to connect to your project as you balance many clients at once (can be anywhere from 3-12 clients), not much diversity, burn and churn culture, low bonus and raises (expected at big 4 sometimes too), there are no training opportunities, very low connection connection to executives, etc. Plus the Mercer bill rate is exorbitant, and dealing with middle market clients, you are not working with a large budget. You will be asked not to bill all your hours (although against policy) which will directly relate to your bonus at the end of the year. A lot of this relates to MMC being a public company which gives many more boundaries on overall budget. I’m sorry that this is so sour, I understand, but this had been my anecdotal impression. I understand how someone who is not used to Big 4 culture may not see it this way and would enjoy their time there. If you do come from a large company with some perks, this will not be the equivalent .

I don’t think you can compare the two. We specialize in very different spaces but pretend to do everything. The Career business model is not the same as typical HC consulting models. If you want diversity of projects and not stuck on site for 6 month periods then M is a good choice.

Have worked at both. I find the Deloitte comment humorous. We have a few ex-Ds that are quite happy.

Mercer’s culture is horrible and it’s yesteryear work in the HR space - very benefits heavy. It’s stodgy + lacks innovation.

D1: agree. BA1: they’ll start you high salary (higher than big four) but be cautious how long you stay bc your market value will decrease. I think many people within the Consulting market recognize that Mercer is not competitive in the market. I urge you to connect with the Partner who responded positively because he/she finds themselves in a very unique position. I do not agree that all D alumni are happy there, though, but you should stick to someone who’s actually managed to find some kind of benefit working at that circus.

Interesting perspestives... totally disagree, of course. Sounds like sour grapes to me. If you can't sell yourself and your value in the marketplace don't blame Mercer.

Human Capital consultant 1 - thanks for the info. What salary range are we talking here? Also, what makes the culture so horrible in your opinion?

What would happen if someone was interviewing for a role and accidentally passed gas, but otherwise crushed the interview? Has anyone experienced this before? No clue what I’d do as the interviewer

If anyone wants to join a boutique HR & Talent Advisory consulting firm, Kincentric is hiring for an Associate Partner role! Location doesn’t really matter, but preferably in IL, NY, or ATL.
