Anyone quit their job without another one lined up? How was your experience?

My wife just resigned from her job (director level in industry) without having another job. She started telling people she resigned and what she hoped to do next and lots of people have offered to help. If you know what you want to do next and communicate it to friends, colleagues, etc I think you’d be surprised how many people are willing to help get you where you want to go. Sometimes it’s easier to take the time to find what you want when you’re not working 55 hours per week at a job you don’t like

I knew a guy that resigned without anything lined up...took 18 months to find something. And that at a big pay cut.

Or you can find a new job and negotiate a long ‘notice’ with PwC and just enjoy a few weeks off.

If you are asking, it indicates at least some hesitation, which means you don’t feel solid financially or having to explain being unemployed when you do start looking

I left my last firm without anything lined up. I was interviewing, so I knew I would find something eventually

I have a great senior who just resigned with no job in line. She's a CPA with 4 years PA experience and wants to be selective in what she would go to next.

Creates additional skepticism and questions that are avoidable. Don’t suggest this approach unless the current situation is truly unbearable.

I resigned with nothing took 5 months off applied/interviewed for 1 month and received offers for all the jobs I interviewed for

You can say that you traveled the world or you took care of a sick family member. Life happens

Don’t listen to all the naysayers. If you’re good, you can quit and take time off and you’ll find something when you’re ready to work again

I'm 28yrs old. I did a pap test and my doctor's office called to say i am showing signs of HPV and need to schedule an appointment for a colposcopy. I am freaking out right now. I've read how you can get cervical cancer from HPV...and i don't know if it can affect your chances of having kids. Anyone gone through this, I'm really balling right now...I have one sex partner and just called him to make sure he isn't sleeping with anyone else...Am i overreacting ?

Working in public for three+ years I am starting to rethink my future. I am a firm believer in “paying my dues” into a career, but when I look at the “tone at the top” I can’t possibly imagine how anyone would WANT to stay. The idea of working 50+ hours a week for the rest of my profession. My quality of life sucks right now. At this point I would happily take a pay cut to work less, but do enjoy aspects of public. Someone please convince me it gets better and it is worth it to stay.
