Anyone recently gone on maternity leave in California? Mine starts next week & it seems like the only option to receive the State paid disability portion is on a debit card instead of direct deposit?

You can set up the EDD card so it auto transfers to your regular account any time there’s a balance in there. I set that up years ago and never had to change the setting even when I went on maternity leave the second time around. I can’t even remember my EDD login/password anymore but the auto transfer works perfectly.

Yes it was a debit card and was very annoying and I almost forgot about that money 🤦🏻‍♀️ I tried calling to see if there was a different arrangement but never had the patience to wait on hold at that point (#postpartumlife)

Thanks for the info-will look into setting up the auto transfer ASAP! Happy Friday!

You have to do the debit, but the minute you get it, set up automatic transfer to your checking account, you set it up once and never touch it again. When I got let go from one firm due to pregnancy complications and went on unemployment, it was still set up!

This just seems like a pain/logistical nightmare.....was wondering if anyone else had this experience? Thanks!

Actually piggyback q - can you share details of how California’s leave laws are different than what your company provides to moms in other states?

I think the main difference is that you get 4 weeks before your due date/scheduled c-section instead of 2. And it seems that some of the pay for the disability portion(6-8 weeks after delivery)comes directly from the state instead of the disability provider. The other difference is that men and women are able to add on an additional 6 weeks of State Paid Family Leave after all their employer leave is exhausted-but it is only partial pay(max is ~$1200 per week)

Oh wow. That’s pretty great. And PTO doesn’t expire in California. Truly the golden state

Yes debit card. I just transferred the money to my regular account at the end of the leave.
