Anyone regret going in house? Being recruited hard by a global company’s in-house lit dept (which are not all that common in general) and I’m so on the fence…. I am one of the few that actually enjoys working at a firm (esp the $$, being transparent) and I’m in a good position to make partner but I don’t want to work as hard as the partners here do for the rest of my life. But can’t decide if less stress/hours is worth losing a job I enjoy and taking a pay cut. Any insights???

What’s the comp? It’s certainly an easier life in house .. and they may even pay you almost as well - albeit in Stock. If it’s a great company with great prospects .. You should strongly consider it. Law firm life is not sustainable long term.

If you truly like firm life, stay. In-house is nothing like a firm and doesn’t pay as well.

I asked for a raise since I’ve been at my company for 1 year and because cost of living is up 6%. My boss recommended I hold off asking for a raise now and in 6 months he’ll see if I can get a promotion with a bigger raise bump.

He said even if I ask for a COL adjustment now it may make it harder to get the CEO to agree to a promotion in 6 months.

I get $43,000 salary plus commissions so averaging $80 K a year. Any advice?

Hi - I am a career pivot from higher education into tech and have final round interviews for a DEI Coordinator role (which I'm super excited for). I am meeting with three people that I would be partnering with for the job and it was shared with me that these interviews will mainly be behavioral as well as questions on my technical skills. Does anyone have any resources to help me prepare for this? Anything is greatly appreciated!

So coming up to my 3 years at UK KPMG Audit, and I got an offer from a food delivery tech company (think Ubereats, Deliveroo, Doordash etc) for a performance analyst type role which monitors/reports metrics for the Operations.

I'm interested in tech and thought this was a possible to foot in the door for future financial roles in tech.

Was wondering if anyone has thoughts on such roles or...is it a dead end approach.

I don’t want to be a sales agent, though I have a Health/Life Insurance License in my state (& a few others). I review new applications with clients. I’m sick of dealing with all the 65+ & disabled people who are always irate & impatient, inside the “Medicare” area of Health Insurance.

I'm currently in a process for senior associate at a Big4. The process began on July, yet between the first and second interview it took like 3-4 weeks. And between the 2nd and 3rd like 7 weeks. I sent an email to HR during those weeks asking for an update and didn't have an answer. Then it a 3rd one was scheduled three times (the manager didn't connect to the first 2) and next week I have the last interview with 1 partner. Is the timing normal? Or were they looking for other candidates or what?

Hey fishes need a little suggestion here.

I had three offers initially. Company A,B,C. C was paying the highest.

Company A revised my offer to C's offer, now Company B is also willing to revise their offer and give a little better offer than C and A.

I had already accepted revised offer from Company A once..
Would it be an issue if I don't join A now and join B instead.. I have 2 weeks of notice period left. If I join B now.. how do I convey it to A ?

Read in a recent Morgan Stanely report that re is only leveled 5% v. 40% in 2007-08 so there's still room to grow but really? Trying to do some 1031s but might just keep the cash maybe...

Working on a busy project with a first year and it’s their first big project since starting big law. I’m also a junior, but not a first year. I am kind of shocked at how inefficient the first year is. They’re just barely getting the work done and I assume that’s all you can ask for. But because of that, more and more keeps getting added to my plate. Trying to be compassionate, but it seems like they don’t really care they’re not doing a great job - they log off early, don’t always turn in work.

Two holiday related questions:
1. My firm has a secret holiday candy thing where you can send holiday candy to someone. Two partners sent me, first year, holiday candy and a card. Would the appropriate response be a thank you card that I drop off with their assistants or would it be me dropping by their office? I don’t know the partners and they’re not in my practice group. 2. First year question, do people usually give something to their assistants during the holidays? Context (contd).

Anyone in Private Client Services/T&E that can speak to how billable requirements are approached in BL for that practice area? Often hear billables are harder to come by than in, say, M&A or Lit. Is there a greater understanding for failure to hit hours in this area? Potentially making the move from boutique firm where minimum has been 1700 (but 165 hour months are common).
