I’d enjoy it more if I had a 3 million dollar house

Quite the mood

Hell ya. 🎉 (I'm sorry for all the people getting sick or struggling financially, I know it's serious out there and I sympathize)
But otherwise, we are in that sweet spot of WFH DINKs in Tech. Enough space and reasonable hours to feel free and happy. Enough savings to not worry. Peloton to workout. Puppy to play with. Big TV and comfy foam mattress.
🥳 I'm living my best life. 🥳

likeupliftinghelpfulfunny

If you can’t afford a vacation home AND kids, well then you’re just an AVP.

(This is my bitter post, because sometimes I wish we were back to DINK)

I'm enjoying the home part, not necessarily the working bit.

likefunny

Not secretly. I’m enjoying this openly.

Two words: no bra.

Two more words: No makeup.
I may never wear makeup again.

It’s been wonderful. Haven’t gotten much done though. Lol

Lucky enough where I am still retaining all income and spending so much less. My savings is going through the roof.

likesmart

Yeah we’re building up our emergency savings. Really only spending money on groceries and takeout.

I enjoy working from home. I don’t enjoy being on lockdown with everything closed ☹️

likesmart

Absolutely, it has been great, more productive and my energy levels are up due to better sleep and bring less tired from having to commute and also having time for exercise soon as I shit down the laptop. I love it and would want more WFH days - before all this I was getting one day a week WFH now I’d prefer one day in the office to show face and rest WFH.

Happy fingers!!!🤣😂😂😂😂

No. My days are all the same and I work all the time. There are back to back meetings and I don’t even have time to go to the bathroom. I hated it when I had to do it when there wasn’t a pandemic, hate it more now.

likesmart

I hear you. Then when the day is gone you still gonna respond to emails so end up working til 11pm

I’d enjoy it a lot more if schools were in session....

likeupliftingsmart

I have 4 kids. I love the wfh and that they are eating way healthier. But if daycare was open (assuming the world was safe from the virus) I would love to continue to wfh. Way more productive and mentally stable not having a horrible commute (DMV area)

I love it! More sleep and more time to workout because of no commute, more time with the bf and the puppy, more time to learn new recipes... I do miss being able to go out and do things, and I miss some coworkers. I would like a mix of wfh and the office!

likesmarthelpful

So cute! Wish I could sleep that soundly!

Yes. The commute is so relaxing.

likefunny

Last night I slept on the couch to shorten my daily commute.

Yes I talked to my manager and said I don’t think I should go back to the office until a vaccine is found. I think I bought myself a year or so.

likeupliftingsmartfunny

I'm also going to play the "I'm scared" card. I think it will work.

Me. I’m starting to worry that I won’t want to go back to the travel life. Also have enjoyed spending time (without either of us traveling for work) with my partner much more than I thought I would

like

No, Accenture is publically traded. We have Managing Directors, not partners. My partner as in my boyfriend, who incidentally also happens to be an EY partner.

I'm in tax and still very busy.

But at the same time it hadn't stopped me from actually enjoying some of the purchases I've made over the years that I've been too busy to enjoy.

I've been actually getting to enjoy my PS4 Pro and play the most that I have in years. FF7 is amazing.

I can still workout even if it's limited - pushups, squats, and sit ups on yoga mat people (I understand though if you've been weight training for years, but this is better than nothing).

I have more flexibility to chat with friends and family when wfh.

Being able to have more time to keep the place clean and tidy is deeply satisfying.

By far the best benefit is taking random power naps rather than having to rely solely on coffee all the time.

I understand though that people with kids will obviously not have this same experience. For many of them they might have three jobs (caretaker, teacher, and career job).

Add to that cook and ass wiper. I do all 5 now

If I was able to escape after work and do shopping, visit friends, gym, etc. I would love this. Not commuting & more sleep is awesome but my brain is having a hard time shutting off from work when there’s nothing else to focus on.

like

Love no commute. It’s definitely increased my happiness not having to be in traffic or worrying about getting home late.

likesmart

Yeah it's great. I have reclaimed about 1.5 hours a day from commuting. We have a toddler, but my wife was only working 1 day a week before she lost her job to COVID. So she takes care of our kid during the day, but then it's really nice to take a short walk with them and the dog at lunch time, having conversations with them throughout the day. Figure I have reclaimed 9 hours a week (during busy season) and $380/month in gas and tolls, plus probably the equivalent of another $100-150/month in the accumulation of auto maintenance and repairs.

Our firm is already talking about when all of this is over moving towards a more remote/hybrid workforce - IE most employees working from either home or client locations 2-3 days a week. I am fully on board with that. They offered work from home before, but with the large statement that you would have to have a discussion on how it would impact your career goals - so it was limiting.

I am currently CD Director at a major consulting firm working 100% remote (Europe) but am planning to transition into a CD role at one of the large software companies (

Any tips would be much appreciated on 1.) switching expertise, 2.) fully remote or hybrid work (I love my house & don't want to move), 3.) where to find jobs openings. Thanks!

My observation is that it is hard for consulting partners to land the quality public or private board roles everyone naturally targets. Despite there being a significant amount of exceptional talent that could be deployed, there is a big bias against consultants. Everyone wants “operators,” but I feel every board could also benefit from one current or former consulting partner. But sadly, that’s not the way the external world looks at things...
